Hello,
I recently purchased some Pilot Super Sport tires, 245/45 r18, that's what was on the car when I bought it. Anyway I just realized that the oem size is 255/40 r18.

What are the differences between these two sizes in regards to handling, I live in Nor Cal and drive lots of twisty roads and do track days probably 3 times a year.

Thanks,

Justin

Well. 245 is narrower than 255. Less contact patch = less grip. There are many tire size calculators on the web.

^Like he says...

For track days- I'm a convert to...wait for it....wait for it.....wait for it.......

If you haven't mounted I would opt for the 255's

You need all the grip you can get in this pig.

Thanks for the quick replies, I am looking into swapping these out for 255's and if the tire place won't change em out I may have a new pair of these to sell: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Super+Sport&partnum=54YR8PSSXL&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Audi&autoYear=2003&autoModel=RS6&autoModClar=With%20TPMS

One more question, does anyone run 255/35/ r18?

What tire place did you purchase from? A good brick and mortar retailer should have caught the size difference and pointed it out before purchase!

Got them through my shop, I think they were just going off what the car had on before when they ordered them. I called and asked about a swap. I've dropped some serious cash on this beast (steering rack replacement + roters pads all around etc) there so I hope they will take care of me.

Stock tire size works just fine. Perfect fit for the stock rim.
