View Full Version : RNS-E Repair?

Does anyone know of anyone capable of repairing an RNS-E main unit?

I've have problems with it reading the NAV disk, which has become frustrating to the point that it's useless. Further, the screen blacked out tonight.

Any recommendations?

I forgot to mention. Within North America. It would seem that there are MANY repair facilities in the UK, but I'm looking for something in the lower 48, if possible.

Thanks,

CW

You might try ZAWA to see if he knows someone in the US to repair them...

As someone who has gone through 3 rns-e units I share your frustration. The laser dsic reader is defective and now the back light in your LCD. I guarantee its not anything else. The replacement LCD is $200 from china and is the direct replacement of what you have. I can provide a name if interested. No company in the US will touch this screen by toshiba because of how faulty they are. The laser disc can probably be sourced from haggie on audiforums.us. Warning its not cheap!!

all said and done you should part out yours and buy a new avic. More user friendly, more features, very attractive

I was thinking the same thing last night. Is this the unit you're referring to...

Or, maybe this one...

If not, can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

I might do that, but I may just upgrade and sell the older unit for parts, as suggested.

Thanks, and I will keep Zawa in mind.

No, those look like knock off rns-e units, more like these: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/ch.GPS-Navigation.Compare

Ahh. Okay. An aftermarket unit. It looks like a nice unit.

Does it install without any modification? What about a fitted trim facia? Connectors? I just want something that I can plug in and go. I am definitely not looking to take on a new "project".
