I just bought a beast, have cleaned up my driving record over the past few years despite owning a Ducati ST4s, but can only imagine the temptation to drive this car too fast and get nailed big time.

Anyone have any stories to share in this regard?

I am not some kid who will be driving this monster around at mach 12 all the time, but man I've got to figure a ticket, potentially a big ticket, could occur.

Let's just say this: I think my license will be suspended for 1 month after last weekend. Unsafe pass on the left hand side. 4th ticket in 5 months :)

Get defense systems. Escort or v1. Maybe a laser jammer. And if it's real serious, a bear tracker scanner.

And if your a nut job, a toggle switch to kill the taillights.

I've had more speeding tickets in the RS6 than any of my other rides. NEVER had a speeding ticket in my GNX and it's the quickest car I own. My NSX only 1 ticket and that was on the highway where I was clocked at 70km over posted limit. The beast is just one of those rides that never feels like you're going that fast. In the 4 years I've owned one, I've had 7 speeding tickets with 6 of those being for 20km over posted limits in the city. Not even grossly over the limit in comparison to what you can easily see yourself caught for on any given day.

HA !! Here's my lil' story... ...my driving record WAS clean up unitl 2009, then I got my Rs6 and not a week later and...BAM, a 92 mph ticket (I saw him up ahead too and was decelerating from 100+). Instant on laser he had. Thinking back he could have arrested me I suppose for my speed....but I was back driving (fast) 10 minutes later.

I didn't mind the 280$ ticket too much (nicely dropped to 100 in court).... I looked at it as 'paying my dues' ; to drive fast on the highways 'MY' taxes fund to keep them smooth.

3+ years later and I still can't seem to drive the car at 'normal' speeds on the highways around here.

I speed everywhere. Well into the triple digits daily. I have the built in Passport SRX that the previous owner installed and my V1 that I installed both running at the same time. Have not been pulled over in it yet. I bought the car in FL and drove it to NY with the cruise set at 100mph the whole way, I made killer time and never once was stopped by the law.

Wife and I have never had a ticket ever. 31 years of driving for me 33 for her. She said when we do get caught we will have "earned" it. I'm thinking that the "speed limit" should be half of whatever the speedometer in your particular vehicle goes to.

Got mine about four months into ownership. First ticket in 3.5 years. Snohomish County was doing a "speed control exercise" that was even advertised on all of the news channels. Unfortunately, I did not get that memo. Heading north in the HOV lane, looked at the 128th St. overpass from about a half mile, which I have been visually scanning for 25+ years since it is a notorious speed trap. See nothing. At 1/4 mile, cop steps out from behind the support pillar and guns me. At this angle I can now see his motorcycle - on a rainy day. I see him heading back to his bike and I mention to my three passengers "I think I am getting a ticket". I get three "FOR WHAT???", as I am surrounded by cars doing the same speed.

Sure enough, ticket for 71 in a 60. Speed control exercise my ass. This whole gig was to generate funds to buy Dunkin Donuts stock. I was so pissed. Trooper liked my car though, did not like the lack of a front license plate however. I have since been told that he cannot get accurate laser readings with no plate. Whatever, I got hosed.

So to keep the record clean I pay $350 to a local lawyer that fights tickets. She does a pretty good job, completely got my 18 year old daughter off of a ticket for doing ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR on I405 New Years morning (another story...). 6 weeks later I get the finding on my ticket. The county prosecutor is willing to reduce my charge to "talking on a cell phone" (no insurance points), and for the favor he will need $175 instead of the $110 the ticket was originally for. I think that the word for this is EXTORTION.

Whatever, over three years the insurance company would have gotten more. But 71 in a 60. WAFJ.

I have gotten 2 (in the RS, many more in others) and both were speed traps. One I was going 67 in a 65, but it was construction zone (empty, no workers) marked 55..

Other was in AZ cutting through small town. went from 65 to 35 in like half a mile, and i was coasting in. As I am about to leave town cop pulls me over. I told him I even saw him and I slowed down. He claimed i was speeding while I crossed the barrier of the 35 sign (which was still open desert practically).

I was so pissed, I even asked him how many out of staters hes gotten today, and he wouldnt answer. Asked him how much revenue he gets from this street, wouldnt say. Asked him if he was really concerned for my safety going 41 in a 35 on a 4 lane road, and he got tongue-tied (younger guy). Then my GF started yelling and we had to go haha.. SUCH BULLSH*T.

I will own it if I am on the gas doing 100+ racing around like an idiot. I would deserve a ticket. But in these other cases its CLEARLY not about safety and all about revenue.

The funniest part is, I have about 5 cases where I was doing over 120 in a 360, doing burnouts through red lights in front of a cop (long story), and many other idiotic and fun things, and I have gotten off on all those worst offenses, usually by being honest. I hate speed traps.

ok, so I will spill my guts...

April of 2012, driving from San Diego, CA via the I-395 North thru the back side of the Sierras on my way OUT of California - beautiful road and PERFECT RS6 road - passing is effortless! Fuel management is the only concern, kinda...
This means I am leaving CA to relocate to WA, I am out, gone, see ya, ciao, bye, hasta la vesta, etc.

There are times when I had the cruise on at 72mph and going up hill.
It would accelerate hard enough that when reaching the top of a hill or pass - the momentum would push me past 80 and then settle back down to the 72-ish I had it set for..
Also when the cruise was on and going down hill, there was zero compression to maintain the 72mph.
The passes were 8300' and 6900' and 6300' which is pretty high for North America, the RS6 didn't hiccup once and had no problem tackling the roads.
The BEST road was CA 44 to the CA 89 toward the I-5 but there are sneaky CHP on that one.

So I am zipping along at 72-73mph outside of Susanville, CA and I see 4 CHP going the other way, I don't hit the brakes as they could see that.
I shut off the cruise and the third officier hits his lights, I slow to like 60-65 and he turns around but doesn't accelerate to get on my tail or anyone elses tail.
All the other cars behind me pull over and so I do, and then he pulls in behind me.

I thought this was a BS pull over and was cordial and informed him that I was exiting California and relocating to WA - which was the truth.
I think he was thinking of letting me go but then again it was a guaranteed $277 for Northern CA county.
He "said" was doing 81 in a 65, I said no way, I had the crusie set at 72mph.
It was a slight downhill which could explain not being at 72, but not 81.
He wrote me up for 75 in a 65.

I was SO butt hurt after that, and kept the cruise at 2-3mph over the posted speed limit.
Made sucky time but great mileage (24.5mpg)

I kinda think of it as a exit fee to get out of CA or karma for driving around in California for 13 years with Washington plates!

You dont need a kill switch. Ive tested this in an empty parking lot. just turn your lights off as if you were parking, and there are NO lights on, even while driving. :hihi:

I rarely got tickets in florida with both of my B5 S4's and regularly sped around town with radar. before that i was in norfolk for about 10 months and got 4 or 5 "reckless driving" tickets for going 75 in a 55(yeah, on a highway, and cruising in a 1996 Honda civic). Since being back in Norfolk, i have gotten a few, one landed me a night in jail because the judge looked at all my previous tickets in my record. Since getting my RS6 over 2 years ago, i have gotten 1 ticket. and that was before i had my 9500ci fully installed and was running with my V1, but had it unplugged because i had left base earlier. Guy wasnt even a real cop, he was a fuckin cadet or some shit, stuck on speed trap duty for 4th of july. and the speed trap was .5 miles from my in-laws.

On a related topic, my wife got a ticket in the beast a few weeks ago. Apparently she has been driving with the volume all the way down on the 9500ci since i left, with a false sense of security that it would warn her. Oh well...

one major ticket in my first year - 96 in a 55, and I was hard on the brakes. I regularly cruise at 120mph on road trips.

I also have a Ducati ST4 - older one with the 916 superbike engine. No tickets on that, although bikes seem happiest at a 100mph cruise...

Fight everything in court seeking dismissal & if not then concession on speed at the least...and don't advertise big brother is watching. New technologies, speed cams etc are worrysome for leadfoots :/

I have never had a ticket in the beast, always in my murano but nothing in the last 4 years knock on wood. A tip from someone who has had many tickets over the years and yes I believe it is part of speeding period. If you haven't had a ticket in the last two years and you get a mild one maybe 10-15 over the speed limit in many counties in the US you can get court supervision or something to the effect of probation in that county. If you don't get another ticket during the probation period they will not count the ticket on your record. I have used this many times, sometimes the fine is a little higher that the usual but it is so worth it.
