View Full Version : Duck foot rat technique

I'm going to do a 1/4 mile drag for the first time later. I'll do one of the runs using 'duck foot rat', I've done a search and it came back with this great explanation from V8 Weight.

The magic number is three. Hold left foot on brake, rev, let off. Rev again, let off. Rev again and hold, you should notice that on the third time, it will allow you to hold a higher rpm (like 2500). Now smoothly let off the brake as if releasing a clutch and in a sweeping motion smoothly apply liberal amounts of throttle. If you've done it right, your tires will go up in smoke, and your passengers will soil their trousers. This is the "Duck-foot-rat" technique.

I just want to clarify that I understand this correctly.

When you eventually launch after the third brake boost, is it important you don't slam the throttle to the floor? It seems like the logical thing to do? Or should I really smoothly feed the power in?

I've promised myself, I'll only do it the once, so no trial and error for me I'm afraid, hence the thread.

Any info appreciated, I'll come back with my results. :addict:

I think with this -> 530 BHP & 844 NM, you are gonna have a challenging time with seeing thru the blue smoke of your tires!

I didn't manage a decent launch, yet to work out the duck rat thing, still managed 0-60 in 4.33 seconds and a 1/4 mile in 12.78 with a passenger and 3/4 tank of fuel. Is that any good?

Looks like a great time for a well tuned and cared for car, nice!

Thanks LSWIG. I'll post photos/videos later. I ran with an identical spec RS6 apart from the fact it had Wagners and mine has standard IC. It has dyno'd at 529 vs my 530 BHP but has a torque advantage of 865nm vs my 844. We were fairly even. Grizz was there in his 750 BHP RS6 and did 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and his 1/4 mile was 11. something, I cannot remeber what exactly . Event was overshadowed as sadly a car with a clip on clip off steering wheel had its steering wheel clip off at 70+ MPH, it rolled into spectators and some were airlifted to hospital. I hear they are stable though, fingers crossed they aren't hurt too bad.

I'm getting a consistent 2.0 second 0-60ft time by simply applying the brake as light as possible to hold 1500-2000rpm. As soon as the 3rd yellow light shines I release the brake and slam the throttle to the floor. ESP off (IMPORTANT!) and transmission in Sport - I just hang on for the ride :)

I'll get more photos later, this is the only one I have at the moment. Me and Grizz.
