Just finished my second 2 day NASA HPDE track weekend in my, shall we say full figured RS6. I tend to be the heaviest car out there but everyone respects the HP but they are always surprised that she can corner. She can't take the line that those 2300 lb miatas can or those other sub 3000lb rides take but they expect a heavy , awd 4 dr sedan to understeer horribly. But with the Hotchkiss sway bars and ESP off I've been lucky to have some instructors who showed me how this beast should be cornered and when driven with her weight in mind I didn't experience any understeer all weekend and when I muster the confidence to carry my speed into the corner as I point her into the proper racing line its pretty exciting when you feel that rear end start to come around!

Anyway, so far this spring my car buddies have been, well shall we say, not stepping up to the plate, so I've been going alone and have had a chance to meet some great new car guys who love to drive. I was having problems with my camera mount and One of these new friends with a GoPro mounted on his race prepped, 2100lbs 300 HP supercharged ford focus offered to follow me for a few laps and post the video to YouTube so here ya go :race:

Thanks for sharing- That looks like a fun track with plenty of opportunities for fun. That the way to represent the RS6 team!

You might consider Trackmaster to combine data (speed, braking, etc..) to the video. You will need video editing software that will allow you to combine the Trackmaster data with the Go-Pro video.

Fellow Utahan. I've never tracked mine (despite so many of my friends asking why not). I've just thought I couldn't afford $1000 for new tires and $1000 for new brakes after i got done! Way to go bud.

Miller is a great track...would luv for some of the RS6 brothers to pay a visit.

I'm going down over memorial day weekend for superbike next week. I'm hoping to take the RS6 and the VMAX.

MapQuest - KC to Salt Lake: 15 hrs 57 mins / 1111.37 miles

Hmmm... Max, we may have to rethink this one. Perhaps shipping the RS's and flying in is a better idea. :)

Wowza- I be at 1500 miles...I'd love to Jim- but think that is too far of a stretch. It would be great to meet up with you again, and see you out on the track with your mad hatter skills.

Road trip! Hey you can't trust those map time estimates! Google nav says it will take me 1 hr 23 mins to get to MMP track and I routinely make the trip in the RS6 in 55 mins sooooo, you guys should come out :incar:

Here's a link to the NASA track schedule

Notice that the July event is the full 4.5 mi, 23 turn track ! I want to see what kinda top speed our beasts can make on the full home straightway.

Also, here's a link to the MMP Track info/maps

Hey, I know by then half of you guys will have your phateon brake ducts installed so come on out and see how well they work!

Quick note from track weekend. Once again kept checking oil level and did not burn any oil thru the 8 x 20 min sessions around 200 miles on the track. Very pleased with that from this engine. Also even though the temps again were right around 80 degrees my oil and coolant temps didn't seem to get quite as high as last time. I only once had to do a cool down lap. Last time oil had about 2800 mi on it this time less than 500, only difference i can think of.

Randy thanks for the tip on the Trackmaster app ! I finally had a chance to check it out and that rocks!!! I bought it right away and can't wait to use it, hopefully at a Porsche club event coming up in June.

Do you use the app AND your GoPro? I was thinking I'd try just using my Galaxy Nexus video camera, it takes 1080p and it looks like that would make life much easier to vet the most benefit out of the app. The data logging, lap vs. Lap track overlay, session archiving, and the BT audio with spoken lap split time and speed are what I am excited about. That is way cool, I'm gonna wear my BT earpiece under my helmut .

Yep- I combine it with the GoPro video. However; you can combine it with any video with movie editing software. I happen to utilize Cyblerlink Power Director at the moment to combine the Trackmaster data and the GoPro video. You might want to invest in the Qstarz GPS receiver to provide more accurate data. I have it and it links easily through Blue Tooth. Below is some info on it.

The below is an example of a session at Barber Motorsport Park. Not in the best format as I compressed it for YouTube upload. However; it looks great on the big screen burned onto DVD's in avi format.

I look forward to some of your upcoming video productions! ;0

WOW Randy, you've been holding out on us, THAT'S the good video! I CANNOT WAIT to run the track with this! That is phenomenal!

Thanks once again for turning me on to Trackmaster, too cool.

^LOL- By the way- You can run Trackmaster anywhere (track, public roads, etc). For example, you can setup split markers on the map for the roads around your house. Then you can run some laps around your house to test the app and learn how to utilize the various functions. This is what I did to learn the system before I took it to the track.

It does take a bit of effort to match up the data and video. However; with some practice, good video editing software, and the computer to handle videoe editing/production (processor, graphics card, memory, etc), it isn't overly difficult. There are combo video/data acquisition devices. However; for the low cost of Trackmaster...this setup works for me.
