View Full Version : Well unfortunately, I may have to sell the RS6...

Well, I am sad to say I have to make a tough decision on what car I ultimately keep (the RS6 or the S4). With a new baby now, I realized I have to free up some time and funds so one of my 3 cars must go. I am having a hard time deciding on which to keep, so I am posting both cars for sale and see what happens.

2003 RS6 Ebony Pearl/Black/Black with SE Exhaust from factory
119,000 miles 2nd owner
Service is up to date. The timing belt is not due for 20,000 more miles. (receipts provided)
Just passed emissions (DEQ) last week! First owner had the vehicle Certified Pre-Owed for 100,000 mile Audi Warranty and during that time it has had the following repairs done:
Transmission replacement
Both turbo's replaced
Radiator replaced
Alternator replaced
Power steering pump replaced
(4) new Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires (7/32nds remaining)
Suspension replaced under recall (all new struts)
There's more but these are the big items
NO oil leaks etc :-)

...within the last 2-years all of the above was done totaling about $15,000 in parts ALONE.
I just had the car detailed and serviced at Audi including new factory Audi specific RS6 oil, filter, wiper blades and new factory Audi battery. Also, I just hard-wired the newest version of the Valentine One Radar with Savvy OBD2 that I would include with the sale (at the right price).

For more details text me at 5O3-73O-O975. I will try and get pictures up today or tommorow, or I can text/email you some.
Based on my findings with other RS6's out there and with all the work that has been done at Audi and work that I have done over the last couple of months, I would like to see $22K.

The car doesn't need anything (which is why I bought it), just drive/enjoy it !!!

Here are a few pics I just took. Also, I forgot to mention that all 4 front upper links were replaced as well as the "common" engine oil leaks. I have receipts for engine removal and reseal from Audi.

Yeah. The B5 has 177K and my Ridgeline has 144K. But you would never guess it because I always keep all my cars clean and black shows everything so I wash them constantly! I definitely like black the best when its clean!

FYI: I have Carfax information to anyone who needs it. Also, want to add that I will include the new (2 weeks old) Valentine Radar with Savvy with my asking price (this also applies to my B5 S4 I have advertised). This is not a used unit from eBay; I purchaced it for $460 from Valentine's website and have NOT registered it for warranty as of yet. You will get the reciept/boxes/everything. I see *most* eBay Valentines are a year or so old needing at least a software update etc.
Here's a pic :-)

Perhaps keep the RS6...bigger, safer, faster and baby will sleep better in it with the low rumble of the V8.

Congrats on the troop that hit the fertility beach first !!

Thank you!

I agree the RS is bigger/safer/faster but I really need to downsize and I been having more interest in this car over my S4 due to the higher mileage of 177K even though it drives like 77K.
I'm not getting near the interest I thought I would on either car however, which is surprising since most other RS6's out there have 100K that need 5 grand worth of work and are priced above mine.

After a few days sitting, then driving it today, I have started to notice the right front shock starting to knock over larger bumps.
I plan to replace the shock with new OEM (although the recall was done about 20k ago), or will knock the price down for those who plan to convert to a coil-over system anyway.
If I did nothing, I think droping the price to $19,950 is a steal of a deal. That gives anyone 2 grand to work with for new suspension.

mik15
May 23rd, 2012, 06:58
mine started doing the same thing, but only when it's been parked for 1-2 days, it knocks a few times after i start driving it again and then it disappears and everything is back to normal, i guess yours has the same thing, could be the begining of the end :), mines have been replaced by Audi less then 10k ago...

mine is also the right front, do you think is the shock-absorber? let me know how you sort it out! Thx!

Also, I would be willing to do some part trading to bring the cost down for B5 S4 hi perf parts. I need a JHM shifter for late model 01 and planned to do the Frankenturbo swap. Possibly upgrading the brakes also. Just message me what you have.

$19950?

I often wonder what a high milage RS6 could fetch!

From the look of the photos, it's in excellent condition, and would be a far better car than a new Civic.....LOL.....

good luck with finding that right buyer..

I feel for under 20, I'm giving it away. New tranny, new turbo's and engine resealed. Why would 119k scare anyone--the big ticket items are done.

Wish I would have bought yours instead of mine. Great deal for someone that wants to drive one instead of work on one. How old are the brakes?

Brakes have 6-7mm remaining. Depending on how you drive it, thats 1 day to a year left lol.

That seems like a great price to me. If you were local when I was shopping last fall I would have been very interested. Even though I know I don't have the detailing aptitude necessary for keeping a black car nice...

TechGurru

Turns out, the slight knocking I had on the right front was actually caused by the DRC central valve in the rear for the right front and left rear shocks. The piston came completely apart! That valve alone is $1400 bucks so instead of putting money into what is already a bad shock design, for less money I have decided to install the ST coilovers made my KW (I'm in the PNW so galvanized is fine). I ordered them a couple days ago! In the RS's current condition, there is no way I can sell the car until its repaired and since I have a potential buyer now for the S4, I have decided to keep the RS6 for the time being and enjoy the new suspension...and all other parts of the car LOL !!!

TechGurru
September 6th, 2012, 23:37
Definately been enjoying the car driving it a couple times per week back and forth to work :-) Since my last post here I have finished the coilover install with about a 1.5" drop from stock--then had a 4-wheel corner balance tweak to 49.5%!! and 4-wheel alignment of course; then had all 4 wheels refinished due to previous owner curbing them. Since the center caps were fading, I replaced all 4 of those as well.

I have decided that I want to get my wife an SUV to haul the kids around in and I will eventually go back to driving my RL and will be selling the RS6. I think around $21k is reasonable but I am open to suggestions. I may even try to put it on eBay but maybe one of you have interest?

Enjoy the pics!

Yes, comfy enough for daily use. Don't set them too low or it will be slow moving in/out of driveways etc. I just set mine with a slight rake and zero fender gap. I do have the part number off hand but they are the C5 V8 QT ones. There is no difference to the RS6. I didn't have to modify anything just tied back the hard DRC lines is all. I also can't remember what site I bought them from but the quality is top notch!

Also talk to your service advisor at the local Audi dealer, sometimes they have clients that are looking and casually mention "have you seen XXXX or YYYY or PDQ...? Let me know if you see one, two, three, color..."

Here's my $0.02 and it might have already been mentioned.

Finding a cash buyer is always difficult and cars of this age cannot easily be financed. Some buyers will not be able to get financed at all.

The normal/high miles hurts, too.

The buyer of my car financed through a credit union and if I wasn't a patient person, I would have backed out of it.

Chances are, they see your car and then call the bank. Then it ends there.

It's much easier to buy a car like this through a used car dealer that can facilitate financing for the buyer.

Maybe you can consign it to a local establishment for a modest fee, etc.?

You're right, most banks will only loan 80% value for any vehicle over 100K miles which was my problem when I was searching for a loan just for this car! I found that through Oregon Community Credit Union they were able to do 100% financing, no money down and 2.99% interest for 5 years. I was shocked! But working for a dealership, I was able to look at several banks offers or should I say "rate sheets" before applying. I even moved my other car loan over to Oregon Community because they had a much better deal then who I had been going through. Anyway, if anyone is wanting to finance the car I would call them first!

Maybe put something like 'seller can help facilitate financing' in your ads, too. If you're at a negative or zero equity on the loan, I'm wondering if the lender would allow a qualified buyer to take over the payments.

Oregon Community will loan no more than 100% "Retail" book price for Tier 4 or less credit. KBB is $22,602 retail. So I think anyone wanting the car is good to go :-)

I buy a lot of cars (for work), and also help people sell. My advice is to advertise it for near what your bottom dollar is, with respect to what your competition is.. You will get eager buyers that want to "win the deal," instead of tire kickers that will end up grinding you down. And if your car sits too long from being priced out, it will get stale and the callers will drop off. Take lots of pics, and disclosed even the stupidest of blemishes. Will establish trust.

I tell my old man, " you have GOT to buy this and just sit on it for 4-5 years "
He looks at me like I am crazy 17yo punk trying to Ferris Bueller the car on the weekends.
Then he says "there is no money to be made in owning cars" (which is true but there are some exceptions)

Fast forward to 1986-1987

It takes an hour to R&I the ECU/TCU but we have to box up and send out to STaSIS. We no longer can flash in-house until the Revo/STaSIS merger is complete then we will get the hardware to do it onsite. Customer pay price for ECU is only $760. Unsure on TCU cost, half the ECU cost I'm guessing.

Very surprised this hasn't sold yet. Most of the nice ones seem to be in CA and WA.

Me too! I've only had 1 person come look because he didn't know what an RS6 was. That is it.
I am shocked. I thought at 20 grand with all of these new parts it would be snatched up quick.
Then I drop it to 18 and still nothing. I'm thinking what the heck!

I'm surprised, seems like a good quality car with nice extras. My thoughts on the pics, it's lowered too much, and I wonder if the ride is too firm? That could scare off some buyers. Have many even looked or driven?

I found your old CL ad, 15,950? More advertising!

TechGurru
May 16th, 2013, 21:03
No, it rides like stock--maybe a tad stiffer but not much.
I had replaced the DRC with Coilovers. You can adjust the height to your liking as you choose.
I think I made a typo on the CL ad. I will investigate. Basically whatever I owe, it's yours.
I don't want to park it outside and I never drive it because I work long hours and have 3 cars.

Why not take it with you or have it shipped there?

TechGurru

And to clarify, I will let it go for $15,950 or you can consume the loan (2.9% rate is unheard of! Payment is $279) but that is as low as I can go without putting up money to pay the loan off and I will not do that. DO NOT ASK! I will just let the car sit and try selling again next summer. I have already put a ton of money and time into the car.
Again, the reason I am selling it is because we have too many cars, not enough indoor parking and I really don't have any time to enjoy driving it :-(

PM sent. $15,9 and change is what I owe. Whatever is left over (if I make a payment etc.), the Credit Union will just mail it to me.
I won't go any lower than 15950 until next summer then I will re-evaluate.

I am not sure this car is suited for 8 months of snow per year, driving through snow drifts, 30+ mph winds regulalry, regular -40 degree weather, etc. And on top of that, I doubt anyone in the area would be suited to work on it and likely 500+ miles on dirt roads to nearest person that could.

Car was built for exactly that...

Finally got the registration process finished... Tech, this is the Erik that contacted you and the service shop that's local to you - did you all manage to hook things up so the pre-purchase inspection gets done? I've got lines on a couple other RS6's around the country that I've got temporarily tied off waiting for a report

Thanks
Erik

Not yet. I had to work over the weekend.
I don't have the resources to just drop it off at the Dealership and pick it up later at the moment.
I am working in it though!

No worries, the longer the money sits in my account the more interest the bank is paying me (for once).

If it's no big thing to you, I'm going to continue pursuing some other leads to give you time to work out an appointment. I totally understand not being able to sacrifice the vehicle for a day, I'm carpooling with my girlfriend in our only car, and it's made for some interesting predicaments when work needed to get done on it... keep me posted, and I'll do the same :)

Its not that I can't be without the car for a day--shoot, its just sitting there in my garage. The reason I am selling is just that--no time to enjoy it.
The problem is that I work 60-70 hours per week. I don't really get any breaks during the day. I have 2 small children, one of which is in pre-school.
It's nearly impossible to get the car to the dealer for an inspection during their work hours because my hands are full.
I'm not trying to make excuses either because I really do need to get this car gone/sold.
I will have it dropped off at the dealer tomorrow before I begin work.

Right on, sorry if I'm making you feel rushed. I thought the service manager was going to work something out with you where they would pick it up for inspection? Hope all goes well with the PPI!

And trust me, I understand 70 hour weeks, you're not making excuses. I was rocking those from November 1st until the middle of April (10-hr M-F, 8-12hr Sat-Sun) - ended up getting 6 days off (including Thanksgiving and Xmas) in that 163-day span. And to top that all off, I was running out to show the house I finally sold back at the beginning of the month.

Car is there. Dropped it off at 7:30 this morning. I found a ride to work, but haven't figured out a ride home or back to the Dealer yet LOL. I guess if the PPI checks out and you want it, the Dealer will probably let me leave it there for a short time while you figure out transportation? You have my number too. Text is best.

I'm SOOO sorry I missed out on this!!! Congrats to you Other_Erik!! I think next summer I will begin seriously looking. My A4 can't keep up with my stepson's Mazdaspeed3 or the wife's 2014 Mustang... but neither one can compare to the fit/finish of my Audi either. I'll give them a year to enjoy their toys, and then I shall procure and unleash one of the greatest automotive warhammers ever created!

While I was looking, I found a couple that had issues, but one in Minnesota that wasn't too terribly out of shape - check with axtman auto sales in St. Paul to see if they still have the black on black one - it needed something like $2500 worth of work (If you decide it may be worth it, PM me your email address and I'll forward the PPI that I paid for)
