A couple months ago I moved from NY to OR - I'm still unpacking boxes and marveling at the stuff I didn't know I had.... I moved to Bend, OR but didn't want to put the mileage on the RS6 driving it from coast to coast. After a fair amount of research and comparing shipping quotes, I decided to use Horseless Carriage Carrier to transport the RS6. I used their covered transport service. There are many auto transport companies that promise the world but seem fly-by-night after some digging, so anyone that plans on shipping a car, beware! I had the impression that there are only 4 or 5 reputable companies and a whole slew of wanna-be's.

I stored the RS6 at Horseless Carriage's main storage facility in NJ for a bit over a month until they had a full shipment. Last Saturday the truck finally showed up in Bend. The RS6 was among some interesting cars making the trip across the country. Notably a factory Ferrari race car and a handful of McLarens.

The unloading was pretty straight forward once the back ramp was configured.

you were in good company there. I have a place in Sunriver and love that area.

Get some skis on - Mt. Bachelor has a couple more weeks I bet.

Best skiing in the PNW IMO.

Your only a couple of hours south of the new Oregon Raceway Park, it's a real nice track in the middle of nowhere.

I always forget about that raceway. Keep thinking of making the Audi track weekend at PIR this October...

@as350: if you don't mind me asking; what does something like that cost? I would like to drive across country, but I only wanna do it one way (fly out, drive back). Hence, I need to ship my X5 to Cali (or someplace near), drive up to Washington, then drive back to Jersey....... Anyone with any insight?

I was looking into this, meaning shipping, and the company I was looking at was plycar @ $1395 to transport from San Diego, CA to Seattle, Wa in a covered carrier.
THAT cost was a little to high for me.

It depends if you want a covered transport or open trailer. Open trailer quotes where between $1100 - $1900. Covered transports where between $1800 to $2700. Distance was around 3000 miles. Beside the transport type, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Some companies are only brokers and will sub contract the actual truck driving to the lowest bidder. This also means that your car will go from one truck terminal to the next on its path across the country. Once I learned about all the different players in this field, I decided that I wanted covered, single operator. I was OK with paying at the top end of the price range because it seemed that you definitely get what you pay for.

Plycar was the most expensive out of all the quotes I received. After much research I wasn't able to find anything shockingly bad about them - I think they are one of the top tier transport companies, a group of only 4, maybe 5 companies.

I saw that racetrack a few weeks ago as I was flying into Redmond. It looks very interesting and the few videos I found online make it look like a fun experience. I missed the Audi Club event by a few weeks. Maybe next year.
