I am running 245/45 100W's on my allroad. General UHP tire... great tire for the price and they handle very well in wet or dry. Long life. I usually get 30K miles on the allroad.

For the RS6 I currently have 255/40 99Y Conti Extreme Contact... these are still on from previous owner as I have not given the RS6 much attention since I purchased her (allroad project is consuming all my time!). These tires have some serious soft sidewalls. I'd like to get some Michelin PSS on ASAP for a weekend road trip to the mountains next weekend. Thinking same size as my allroad.. 245/45 (100Y)

If anyone wants to purchase these Conti Extreme Contacts for your next set of winters let me know. I will need them down here on the coast. Tires are nearly new. I can take pics if you want.

Thoughts on size for the PSS's? I am on stock 18"s.

Eric, before you settle on a size of tire on the PSS, I remember reading the Michelin marketing documentation @ the PSS - it doesn't come in all the flavors that other tires come in... Meaning there might not be a 245/45-18.

Ask Discount Tire if they will give any credit on the trade in on the Contis towards the PSS.

Just make sure you get the XL rating for whatever you choose...

PSS in stock size is 221 per tire shipped. 255/40/18 zr speed rating, 99y load, XL rated.

Not bad on the $221 price. Where are you seeing that price? Tire Rack has 245/45/18 ZR 100Y XL for $265 but there is a rebate on top of that. Total for 4 before tax/ship is $990.

Ben, thanks for mention on the trade-in. I will definitely call them about that.

Can we run 265/35/18 on the stock 18x8.5 wheel? Does anyone have that setup?

9" will work, 8.5" won't. I mean, they will fit, but it won't work. Ask me how I know...

First, I have 265/35/19 PSS's mounted on 19 x 9.5 wheels... They are not on the car yet----still waiting for custom 15mm centric spacers to arrive. But during a test fit with a standard 15mm spacer, the 265/35 rubbed "the nub" on the front upright. After grinding the nub off, the 265/35 (on a 9.5" rim) clears by about 3-4mm. I would imagine the sidewall of 265/35's on a 8.5" wheel would bulge more than on a 9.5" rim... So, even with the upright nub ground down, there's likely NOT be enough clearance with that geometry.

Second, the Coniti Extreme Contact DWS is the only tire I ran on my 2001 A6 4.2L sport you'round (MN) for the last 180K miles... Absolutely an awsome all-season tire for these cars IMHO. Only lacking charactoristic is spirited Summer driving... Too much sidewall flex. This is a great buy for anyone who drives in slop.

So quick question... saw a set of wheels+tires (19x8.5 et32) for sale on audizine that have 235/35/19's, plenty of life left in the tires. Question is, should I not even consider running that size tire through their life and then replace with the stock 255/35/19? They are on audizine and not sure if the color would look like a$$ against Avus, but they are light weight rotary forged (21 lbs) which greatly appeals to me. Feel free to comment in that regard. Not sure of the brand TSW either, but the price is good with good rubber etc.

that does seem like a good deal. I would agree that the bronze would look wrong with Avus, but when you mount proper 255s (why would one mount undersized tires? that stretched sidewall thing just strikes me as ghetto, not to mention I doubt the load rating woud still be effective with a bent-over sidewall...sorry, rant over).

Where was I? Oh, when you swap tires, just have the wheels media blasted, and I think that'll look fine!

I've goggled up some pics of bronze on silver, can't say it's blowing my skirt up at all. Totally agree with the stretched sidewall, not my bag either. I think the search will continue, just lusting after all these lightweight wheels. I'm not sure what the weight is of our 18" stock wheels, but I know it's plenty more than 21 lbs!

My rears are going to be approaching the scary point very soon so I may have to just grab some new rubber and maybe have my wheels refinished. I had some work done on a bent wheel on my S4 at Hubcap Annie and they did a great job (off of 8th ave on wedgewood). They do the whole refinishing thing as well, seems like it was $80/wheel. My stock wheels definitely need some TLC.

Tom,

I won't comment on wheel designs as I'm too old and uptight for anything other than silver.

I've run 245/45/18, 255/40/18 and 265/35/18 on my stock RS6 rims, all without issue. All purchased through tirerack. i think they even had a disclaimer for the 265/35 asking about my wheel width. Didn't notice an appreciable change in ride comfort or performance. I've settled on 255/40 on oem18's for winter and 255/35/19's for summer on Neuspeed RS10 ten spokes - 19 x 8.5 - 19 lbs On the Track 255/35/18 r-comps

If my memory serves correctly, the oem wheels are ~35#

YMMV, Jim

Thanks Jim, that's very helpful. I think it's safe to say 255/40/18's will be what I'll stick with if I stay with the stock wheels. Cool to hear you are running RS10's for the summer wheels. I loved those on my S4, light, relatively strong, looked fantastic against dolphin gray. If you have a pic with them on your car would love to see how they look on the RS. Are you running any spacers with those or are they bolt on? Dropping from 35 to 19 must have made a really nice difference performance wise.

Here's a photo of the blacks next to the silver.
My supplier has one set of the black in stock. He's selling it for ~$1000. (I paid $825/wheel...ouch)
