OK guys, wheels are ordered. Went with the 19x9.5 VMR 701. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h211/ACerr22/multi-01-wm-800.jpg

Now I've got to decide on tires. I've got it down to three choices. I've got an idea of which one's I'm leaning towards but I'd like some additional thoughts or experiences from RS6 owners who may have run these tires on their beast. Size is gonna be 275/30-19 (Anyone run 35's???)

Choices are:

Continental ExtremeContact DW

Bridgestone Potenza RE 11
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h211/ACerr22/Bridgestone_Potenza_RE-11_lg.jpg

Or I may go nuts and get these -
Michelin Pilot Super Sport

I'd love to get your thoughts on these tires. Thanks guys.

I've been running the Contis on mine and have been very happy. I have them on two cars, my Dad has them on his A8L. However, I will be putting the PSS on my new rims because of all the good reviews here, sounds like they are a better sport driver.

all of the above are very good choices, i had Contis and they wear out very quickly but incredible grip on dry road, now i am running on Michelin PS3, these seem to have harder texture than the Contis so in order to have a good grip you need to warm it up otherwise when entering hard into a corner you can feel the car sliding a little bit and also a bit of squealing especially on the front axle, i am sure it also has to do with the heavy nose, but once warmed up the grip is excellent, i have no idea how they perform on wet surface as it almost never rains here...about the Bridgestones' i have only heard good things about it, couldn't find it when i was looking for tires so went for the Michelins'...i guess it only comes down to how much you wanna spend, though the prices are very close for these brands so any of them you choose you can't really go wrong...

All of the above tyres are good choices, but over in the UK where Euro spec cars are the majority and run 19" wheels, from posts on the UK forum, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 appear to have very slight edge over the Michelin Pilot Super Sports for grip and handling.

There is also the recent auto express performance tyre test.

Note that this wet and dry test was carried out on a much lighter car than the RS6, so dont know if this should be taken unto account.

A US equivalent comparison tyre test would no doubt use a car of similar weight to the RS6.
By coincidence, the tyre rack comparison of performnce tyres has the highest rating for the Michelin Super Sports, but there is not a rating for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric2.

Looks to me like comes down to personal preference for the feel of the Goodyears over the Michelins.

The Goodyears are reputed to be very sticky but wear faster than the Michelins which are also a quality tyre.

How are the PSS'sssss in the rain?

At the Michelin Super Sport 25th hour event at Fontana in June of 2011:
I was instructed by Didier Theys and drove an IS-F with Super Sports on and then Pirelli Nero Zeros on the short course. Super Sports gripped like glue and very little sliding and if there was, it was predictable not snappy. The Zeros were a joke, I felt like i was either drunk or riding on oil - missed every apex, turn in, exit - pure comedy.

Next was accelerate to 55 mph in a BMW on wet surface - brake as hard as you could - Super Sports stopped 3-5 feet short than the GoodYears

Next was untimed autocross in BMW's on dry surface in Contis and Super Sports - basically you were given three laps to beat the tires and slide as much as the tires would let you. SS's were predictable and didn't fail nor get out of control. Contis would squeal/bark/slide/smoke/protest to no end and would produce lovely show boat drifting but that really wasn't the point. In the end, the Contis had a whole in the outer edge with the threads showing - that car was pulled for the remainder of the day.

If they are anything like the PS2's - incredible in my opinion.

PS2's = 10000 mile rating
SS's = 30000 mile rating

My local tire shop was out of Conti DW, so I settled for PSS. A little squeally in the corners, but no loss of grip. Also seems very reasonable in the wet - no skipping or jumping. So far so good. Judging by responses on this thread, sounds like I benefited from Contis' being out of stock. I am on original 18" wheels.

I'm going with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. :) $315/each on Tirerack. I'm ordering them on Monday.

I also already ordered the Hotchkis sways and I went with the KW V1 coils. Hoping everything kinda shows up @ my guy's shop around the same time so everything can be installed at once. I can't wait to see my beast lowered a little bit on 19's. :)

I did around 20laps with these tires on the ring last year in the rain, and they worked great!! Very impressive tires even in the wet. I will defently get these next time as well.

This year I will use cup tires for dry track and PSS for wet track:incar:
