Lots of pre trip prep work including new track wheels/tires. I am a convert to the Michelin Sport Cup. A special shout out and thank you to JP4 and Amulet! Prep work includes checking car over carefully, getting tech sheet sign off, brake pad supplies, fluid supplies, etc. etc. Start it off going over final check lists and packing up the car for the 8 hour journey. Arrive at the hotel and wake up the next morning to change out rotors, pads, and put the track wheels/tires on Crazy. Friday morning there was a hint and 30% chance of rain in the afternoon. The weather while cloudy, was perfect and not a drop of rain for Friday's afternoon Open Track Day (four hours of open track- too much fun). We only had 16 particpants and we had the entire track to ourselves. The Open Track Day allows you to go off and on the track at will and without restrictions of run groups. Passing was allowed anywhere with a point by. It was a lot of fun for this kid and I got a lot of practice with my point by skills. :)

Then after Friday afternooon's track fun, I had 2 days of weekend fun with The Driver's Edge at TWS. The weather was perfect with a bit of cool nip in the morning with some light warm sun in the afternoon. It was a full field and quite different from Friday. The wide variety and mix of cars added to the weekend fun. It is just amazing what us as a human race can do to automobiles. The different mods and character of the various cars is just plain fun to check out. The variety of conversations and mix of personalities is quite entertaining.

At the end of Sunday afternoon, I loaded up the car and headed back home. I had planned on staying Sunday evening. However; events necessitated that I immediately head home. About 8 hours later at 2:30 a.m., the home's garage door goes up and I arrive home with a very weary sh*T eating grin. Was it worth it???? Oh yeah!!!! What a blast!!! I look forward to making the journey again.

Below are a few pics I put together. I'll have some vids later for viewing fun. No mishaps or spins this time..;0

Thanks for posting the vid, good stuff! An HD cam with good audio would really be fun to watch. I'll have a goPro hd in the car soon and post footage...

^ I have it in HD and is recorded with the GoPro cameras. However; the file size in HD is vedy large and upload time is very long. Thus; I produce them in a reduced video resolution to "shrink" the database. For example, the 22 minute session above in HD was approximately 3 gig. The reduced resolution mp4 format shrunk it down to 148 meg. Thus; i normally upload vids to you tube in the reduced resolution. I create DVD's for "home viewing" in AVI format and it is great to watch on the big screen. If I get some time, I'll put together a few clips in HD and upload.

I look forward to seeing some of your vids!

Great track days ! I'm sure you had a lot of fun. the track looks long enough and wide enough for a car like the Beast. ¿What was your top speed on the straightaway and on the tight parts of the circuit? As you know, video can be a bit deceiving as far as speed is concerned, looks slower than it really is. ¿ How was high speed stability, balance on the turns,?, understeer/oversteer, if and when? brake fade and temperature? above all, how did the trans take the heat? I really enjoy your videos vicariously and I might take the MexBeast to our local Autodromo, more than anything, just to find the limits, something that, being so high, you can´t and shouldn't do on the road. Still, I don't think I'd go all out as you do because of the wear and tear on the car. For me, it's more like a fast, luxury cruiser. But then again, to replicate the speed on a proper track car would cost very much pesos. Thank you for the experience and good luck !

At the end of the front straight hitting anywhere from 135 - 145 depending if I got a clean shot out of the chute. I'll link my Trackmaster data on a future vid post of another session. I didn't have any transmission issues. I had no brake issues other than smoking through a set Ferodo pads, and 50% of a Carbotech XP10. No boiling of brake fluid and I had no brake issues or fading. I did have one minor issue when one of the Alcon brake pistons popped out of the caliper when I was doing a brake pad change (that's another Max story). High speed stability was fantastic and no issue at all. Understeer was there on some of the tighter turns. A little late trail braking helps swing the hog around. However; I certainly don't push it to the limit. I'm out there merely for fun and won't be challenging any lap records with my limited skill sets. It is fun and I enjoy the overall adventure including riding shotgun with some of the "real drivers". It gives me a break from reality for a few days and I'll jump on any such excuse to do so..;0

^LOL and I look forward to your pics/vids. It is a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to do it at least once. Life is about experiences and this is one that every RS6 owner should tick off their bucket list. Why turn 90 and look back saying "I wish I had...." ??? Our car obviously isn't the "best" track car. However; is it a lot of fun experiencing what your skill set in our monsters will allow in a very fun safe environment??? Oh H3LL YEAH!!!

I left the pics in original size for your viewing pleasure...00

great pictures, i wish i could've been able to track it this coming week when the event is taking place here but just got the TC error so i am afraid that if i do it i'll be terminating the gearbox :)....bet timing for me :(, what upgrades do you have on the car? are you still on the DRC? i see on the first picture when you're braking for the 1st turn that the car leans hard on the front end....

^I'm running the KW v3's. I rid myself of the oil demon long long ago. Yeah- I was heavy braking in that picture taking it down from around 145 to 75. I'm working on my braking abilities and have learned it is a fine art. I had a small amount of tire rubbing in some of the compressed corners. Thus; I plan on having the suspension setup reviewed soon and before the next track adventure. However; the skill development is on the dummy behind the wheel.

I have the Alcon BBK installed. They work really great in conjunction with a nice set of track brake pads. I smoke through some brake pads (somewhat due to my limited skills). However; Crazy comes to a stop after repeated use and that is my main priority..;0

Great pics and write-ups Max, looks like a ton of fun!, inspiring to get down to the track. Looking at possibly Thunderhill this summer or PIR this fall with the NW audi club...

You ever think about getting the fancy magnetic numbers?, look nice in the pics, plus easy to slap on, the local auto-x guys like them...

what about the gearbox and TC? i presume the TC has been replaced...but is the gearbox still the stock one? how often do you track it?

Sweet. Reminds me of the last few years being able to do lapping at our local road course. City shut it down so the city is now without. 145 top speed is decent to say the least. Our track here used the drag strip as the front straight away and due to our altitude, the 1/4 mile strip had an additional 1/4 mile of runout. Wasn't difficult to hit 250km+ on the front straight prior to threshold braking going in to turn 1. Certainly going to miss getting out on the track. Enjoy.

The gearbox went out around 115K. I had only done a couple of track events at that time with it. I had the tranny and tc rebuilt and have tracked it about 6 times since the rebuild.

I have tracked it about 8 times (lifetime career) in total- I think. My first track event was in Dec/08 at Daytona for an Audi event. It was a great way to get my feet wet, and I was fortunate enough to have JP4 as my first instructor. JP4 is awesome and set me on the correct path to do this stuff fun and safely. He continues to regularly mentor me, and put up with my questions and inquiries (i.e. proper braking techniques, inspections between sessions, etc, etc.). Those specific instructions have allowed me to catch relatively minor issues (tire cording, brake pads toasted, etc.) in the paddock before they became a major issue. I encourage anyone that does this to do "safety first" and then go have fun doing it. If the car begins to make a funny noise, feels different, or just the hairs on the back of your neck go up, "LISTEN TO THE WARNING SIGNS". Get off the track and determine if there is an issue or not. If you don't look- you won't see the issue/problem. It is tempting to stay out there to get that next lap in. However; I always have the JP4 bird on shoulder and his "peeps" have saved me more than once.
