Could this be faulty adjusters in the headlights and if so, can they be replaced without replacing the entire headlight housings?

12325Sounds like the plastic/electrical switches that connect to the control arms on the left front and left rear of the car which send the level control signals to the headlights. Anychance you just had some suspension work done? I've forgotten to reconnect mine before when I replaced my front suspension. Although your codes do say intermittent, maybe they've been damaged but both at the same time is suspect. At least do a visual inspection of them and maybe disconnect and reconnect the electrical plug to them. Looks similar to this pic I found on the internet.

The code came on shortly after we got the car. I recently did the brakes all the way around but didn't touch the level sensors and the light has been on since before I did the brakes.

I'll inspect those. The lights sometimes aim down and stay low for a minute or two.

Something else to have someone check is this:
person 1 - stand in front of RS6 to observe Xenon autoleveling.
person 2 - put key in ignition
person 2 - turn ignition on but don't start it.
person 1 - observe the lightning quick dip of the autoleveling

Not sure of the frequency of this recheck of the level of the headlights.
I accidentally observed mine when the sun was reflecting perfectly on the lens and I turned the key to the ON position, the lens/assembly quickly dipped and back up thereby casting a reflection on the wall in front of me.

I notice it does that when I start it in the garage and turn the lights on.
