Do we have a rear locking diff in our cars? My old S4 had a button on the center console to lock up the rear diff.

No, open diff front and rear....the brakes control wheel spin.

My old S4 has a diff lock button too. I don't know if it's actually better than EDL in general, but this is a good excuse to post this picture I took years ago:

Hey V8weigth, it's nice to hear from you ! I, for one, miss your learned comments on the forum, as well as those of Dave (Dhall), It's not the same without you two. Hope you're back for real !

Agreed, you both are a wealth of knowledge.
I figured we didn't have one but doesn't hurt to ask. I have never needed to use the locking diff but it was nice to know it was there.
The S4 was a great car but I do like the RS a lot more. I wish I had parking for both.

EDL works but isn't my favorite approach. Back in high school, I enjoyed immensely the lockable rear and center diffs on the ur-quattro. During heavy snow, I felt like Walter Rohl :D
But for life on those days when it wasn't a blizzard, lockable diffs really had no purpose.
