Does anyone out there in RS6 land have a S4V8 Tiptronic. If so, how does she run, are ya happy with the performance? I'm looking to get mine in April '04. Can't wait!

That sounds good. What color and options have you chosen? Any modifacations in store for it? I have always wanted a car that went really, really fast and got crappy gas mileage. Congrats Again! -Bimmerhead :s4addict:

Shak, that sounds too cool for words! Looked at the Mugello Blue on the Audi U.K. site, man what a beautiful color. That's the one from the RS6 isn't it? Here in the States we don't get the option for custom colors:vsad2: Oh well, at least they brought the car here, that's a start.:s4addict:

Roel, that sounds like an awesome ride! I know you can't wait, but you know what they say about people who do. My test drive was in a Manual as well, did you think the clutch was a little soft for a car of this caliber? Definately drop me a line about the performance when you can.:race: Hope to see some Pics too!

I just picked up mine this weekend, with Tiptronic. I can tell you that it is very responsive, with 3 different ways to shift:

D Nice and smooth, civilianized.

S Holds the gears longer
Sound is incredible

Tip Engages any time you hit the paddle shift
Or throw it over on the gearshift

I drive in a lot of traffic, so a manual would be a lot of work. The tip still keeps you involved with everything that's going on, and allows you to truly drive the car. I know most people probably feel that it's the ultimate sin to have a car as bad as the S4 in an auto transmission...but I got over it in about 1.2 seconds.

I am very happy with the performance, and it runs great...

Hey DGS4V8, How does it sound on the downshifts? Does it blip the throttle for you like the M3? I live in a high traffic area as well definately a good choice to go with the Tip. No it's not a sin You're just more refined.

Hi everyone, I took delivery on my s4 avant tiptronic on
friday and have now 1500 km on the clock.
I am very impressed. After 1000km i let it loose on the
german highway and upon 240 km/h it even pushed me
in my seat after pushing the gas incredible.....

Seems that on the highway everone challenges you .. they
want to see how fast it really is hahaha

I am a bit dissappointed about the tiptronic , the D drive
is oke for normal use and relaxed driving , the S is quite sporty
allthough with such a sportscar i would have made it even more
aggresive ( higher rpm before shifting )
Ie the D shifts already at 3000 - 4000 rpm and the s at 4000 - 5000 rpm Of you want higher than you need to use the
kickdown or shif minus on the steedingpaddle which usually
works fine.
The paddle shifting i use for downshifting ( instead of kickdown)
before accelerating. the upgear shift is useless , it is not real slow but not at all comparable to the sequential gearbox which gives you a direct shift. This feels more like an automatic shift generated by yourselve.

On the bright side

Interior 10 + really fantastic recaro seats !!!!!
Bose sound system really good.
Engine masterpiece superb power

ie a fantastic car , allthough i still believe that tiptronic is
definitely the way to go for this car i would recommend driving it
in S automatic and on a lazy day in D , stay away from the paddle it will ruine your racy feeling !!

Conclusion Very very happy with the car exept for the Plus
paddle

Hey Roel, sounds like a lot fun! Question though, the S Mode doesn't work in conjunction with the Tiptronic? That's strange, you think it would work in Auto Mode as well as Tip. If it doesn't I can totally see your point that the Tip wouldn't be useful except to downshift to pass.

There are three options D / S / Or Tip If you start using the
paddles when drivin in either of the fully automatic positions
D or S it changes automaticly to tip upon the first manual shift.
If you don,t use it it changes back to S of D . It does not matter
if you start using the paddles out of D or S mode.
The downshift i mean is an alternative to the kickdown which
is obviously more agressive in the S mode. With teh paddle
you can initiate yourselve.

Great ride !!!

Roel, I would like to know one last thing about the Tip, will it hold your shift till redline?

Yep , if you put the lever in tip mode you are really on tipmode
and it won,t jump back to auto.
You can then shift at the your desired rpm ie till the redline !!

This car is so powefull it will make your head spin !!!

drove one for a short time. Very nice, its different to the M3 SMG .. SMG is crap for road usage. Its not smooth if you don't lift. S4 is a full automatic, it might not be as quick, but its definately smoother. I guess thats one of the main thing why you want to buy a automatic

Does anyone know if it's like the BMW Steptronic auto trans? With that stupid slushbox if you lift slighty right before you shift it actually shifts faster.

u know i just come to realise that my nickname should be YU7671 not Y7671 :p ... anyway. From some experience with the Tip in VW 5 speed tip and same thing with the S6 5 speed tip. It seems that if you floor and dont lift the shift is quicker. If you lift. the shift hesistate and hold for a little longer (not as smooth as well!!)

I have not had the chance to floor the S4 yet, but I think flooring it and shifting is the way to go.

I think I should go search for a tip chip for the S4.

Yu7671: The Tip Chip idea sounds really good. What would it do for the pressures inside the tranny? With all the problems I've heard about it sounds like these drivetrains are pretty much maxed out or overwhelmed already. Is it the same trans that's in the RS6 or something less stout?
