Hi everyone: This is a somewhat local issue, but I know there are plenty of NorCal people who read these boards...
I need to find a competent mechanic who can handle an RS6.
The shop I worked with prior for my Benz and BMW took one brief look at my car and refused to work on it. I've gotten quotes from a number of Audi specialists in the peninsula area for the 105k mile service - timing belt, tensioners, water pump, etc - and the best quote I received was $2200 for the work. That is exorbitant, even for an RS6.
One shop even told me that they supposedly have 6 RS6s that they service regularly, and advised, that if my car isn't going to track days and serves mostly daily driver duty, that I can defer the timing belt to 140,000 miles without worry... and then gave me a $2300 quote to do the job.
I have to do this soon - curious to know what the opinions are regarding deferring the timing belt to 130-140k miles, and have a CV Joint failure as a much more immediate concern - that's making more noise by the day...
Any tips would be helpful. Prefer South Bay or Peninsula area mechanics - but if there's one in the East Bay, I might consider it if the price is right. No North Bay recommends please - just too far out of the way. Bonus points if its in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos or Sunnyvale...
