Immobilizer defeat & checksum error correction with MTM ECU

I bought a second-hand MTM-tuned RS6 ECU. As expected the car won't start due to an immobilizer error. I did not expect the checksum error though:

Has anyone else experienced the 16985 error with MTM?

Regarding the immobilizer, is there an easier way to fix it than copying the SPI EEPROM?

Here are some pics of the ECU swap procedure. Audi really doesn't want us messing with the ECU! This tamper resistant case wasted at least a half hour. But my car is 4 ounces lighter now!

i did have the 16985 error, i think it was chipped by abt, with the engine light constantly on...i send it to Viper Tuning. He (Rich) brought it back to stock, everything is fine now.
He was surprised it was still running with this error, often the engine just stops running...

Are You sure that it was running OK in the previous vehicle ?

I had an issue with MTM ECU as well. In my case it didn't work at all after soldering it in my ECU.


Did You consider RESOLDERING the CHIP into YOUR ORI ECU (no immo problems !!) ?

I was told by the seller that it was fully functional. That could be incorrect, of course. But the ECU seems functional otherwise (I can talk to it with VAG-COM, etc.)

I actually care less about the MTM tune itself than having a spare ECU to mess around with, so no, I didn't consider resoldering the chip. Worst case I will buy a blank flash chip, copy my stock tune, and solder that down in place of the MTM board (which honestly offends me: all the added unreliability of that cantilevered adapter just to briefly protect their IP.)

Known issue with early MTM ECU chips.

MTM has updated this condition.

I dont think the car runs with full potential when the cel is on. Thus, you end up resetting the ECU every 20 starts.
