I've owned a 2001 A6 4.2L for almost 10 years.... Front rotors are at most $200 for OEM fronts... Is $1000-1500 normal for front rotors on the RS6?

Asking, because I'm interested in a RS6 that is sitting on a Mercedes dealer lot... Needs front rotors, new brake pads on the corners. axleshaft torn boot, leaking oil cooler o-rings, and the 75k..... Trying to pick it up for the right price before they auction it.

You can get all 4 rotors OEM and EBC red pads for about 1300.

OEM Fronts are $280 each from Genuine
EBC Reds are $225-ish
Do NOT go with OEM pads!!!

Do NOT go with OEM pads!!!

Why?... Fade? Too much brake dust? Too much rotor wear? Too $$$?

Thanks!

The OEM pads have rivets in them and make huge valleys/channels in the rotors...

Also the OEM pads generate a huge amount of brake dust.

I'm at the point of needing replacement rotors and pads as well. I've done lots of research and will most likely go with OEM rotors (if I can get a good price) and either EBC or Hawk pads. OEM pads will cut grooves in your rotors towards the end of their life (that's what happened to mine). I was initially going to purchase the JHM Motorsports rotors, however OEM at $600 a set is cheaper even after factoring in one cycle of disc replacement.

I would go with EBC Yellows over the Reds unless you drive real easy. The Yellows dust a little more than the Reds, still less than OEM, but they are they next performance step up from the Reds which can leave deposits on your rotors if driven real hard and are only about $10 ~ $20 more than the Reds.

I agree, go with the EBC yellow's or Hawk HPS pads...I had no luck with the EBC Reds, transferred too much friction material and hot spotted the rotors...just not up to task on such a heavy car.

Has anyone tried Yellows on the JHMs?

I'll 3rd the Yellowstuff pads. Been using them for a couple thousand miles and a track event. Much better than red's. The dusting isn't much worse, but it is different. By that I mean the Red's seem to have small chunks of dust and the dust of the yellows are even. I also notice on cold days that we have now, a very slight amount of squeek on the yellows. VERY slight. Pretty much a non-issue.

I'll have to see how the Yellows behave in the cold on my RS since I'll have it back on the road next week. I also switched the Cayenne over to the Yellows and I've been very satisfied there too.

On the pads, the UK forum post:

highly recommends the Carbotech XP10 pads on the front and new EBC Bluestuff pads on the rear to complement the fronts.

Not cheap, but the poster highly recommends this pad setup.
