Advice from forum members solved the auto trans problem caused by new filter and pan too shallow and starving oil pump pickup. Problem solved- see separate thread- after went back to old filter pan.:applause:

After solved trans problem, ran total Vagcom check. Everything ok except showed up following engine codes:

Q1: performance seems ok. No CEL. Can I still drive till get parts or is it a do not drive till fixed?

From searching the forum, EGT code could come from corroded connnection as intermittent or could be a failing sensor. I will replace sensor when install 3" catless DPS.

Q2: I searched forum but could not find procedure for accessing the the G61 knock sensor so can check connection or even replace. Any advice would be appreciated from fellow forum members.:mech:

I believe there is a left & right knock sensor. If so I would assume that Knock sensor 1 is the left one. It is mounted on the block just below the heads. I can take a look at my car since it is on the lift tonight to confirm. As long as your not driving your car real hard it should do no harm as they are more of a safety margin to detect knock and retard timing to keep things all good.

Well there you go, there are two sensors. You can log Group 20 & 21 I believe which will show all 8 cylinders timing corrections from Knock sensors to see if any timing is being pulled. I would do a gradually ramp up the boost and check the log to see if all 8 read in the ball park. 0 means no corrections, 0 to 4' is Ok, anything higher other than an occaisonal spike means too much Boost or timing. Remember Boost isn't always king. I learned that too much boost and the computer would just pull a little timing and I got better performance figures by backing off the boost slightly so the timing increased ( I also increased the fueling slightly which helped too ).

I unfortunately have to report that G61 has reared its head again and this time it is pulling the timing noticeably reducing power.

Any advice on whether this sensor can be accessed without an engine pull ( groan) would be greatly appreciated.

I think I heard these are under the intake manifold? Not sure, anyone else?

I think under manifold...which, aside from removing harness, fuel rail, airbox, y pipe, I guess TB can stay attached to manifold, remove....ugh

I'll throw my car on the lift tonight when I get home and take a look but I believe I've seen one under at least one of the cylinder heads bolted to the block. Pg 34 of the Audi RS6 self study guide lists 3 knock sensors: G61, G66, & G198.
