I heard my rear brakes squeaking so I decide to replace the pads and this is what I found!

The driver side inner pad completely wore out. All the way to the metal! All the other pads have about a quarter inch left. What could have caused this? Time for a caliper rebuild? Caliper and piston looks fine to me.

Here's what the rest of the pads look like.

The rears are floating calipers. Sounds like the caliper got stuck, it should travel freely on the bracket, but it's not.

Yea, get new boots for both sides, clean the caliper carrier floating pins, regrease and re-assemble. Time for new rotors now too.

I had the rear caliper stick on my wife's prior Nissan Maxima....started squeeking loudly ...That caliper had the emergency brake mechanism in it so I had to figure out why I could not compress the piston to place the new pads on. The threads on the emergency/parking brake adjustment had gone off the end of the inner shaft! Once I figured that out it was no big deal. I learned from that experience to check the brakes for symmetrical wear at snow tire install/summer tire install time!

I just changed my snows today! My front two brakes are so squeaky in the cold weather I was wondering if I too had this INNER pad wear out going on, so I just checked when the wheels were off. No issue. The squeak only happens when it's below about 40 degrees and only just before coming to a complete stop. I can coast at 7 or 8 miles per hour as I approach a stopping point and make a ton of squeaking noise. Drives my son crazy when I'm dropping him off at school. He knows I am doing to on purpose LOL.

Has anyone had to change their REAR rotors yet? Mine are original at 120,000 miles. The fronts have been changed twice.
