So...I haven't driven the car in a year...but now that I'm back in the saddle I noticed my mirrors are all sorts of messed up. The aluminum paint looks melted all the way around to include on the inside lip around the glass itself. Right before I parked the car for the past year I had some paint work done after some punks egged my beast...could this have been the result from the "baking" process to cure the paint work they did? Maybe I just didn't notice it for the week or so I had it before I left? The issue now would be getting them to fix it after a year has passed. Has anyone seen this before? Could it be from the heat of the car 'oven' they cure paint in?

Damn, bummer, looks like tin foil, seems like the window trim would be cooked too if that was the process.

My RS6's mirror covers aren't painted....they are brushed aluminum.

Did they paint your mirror covers too? It sure looks like the clearcoat got wacked. I've never seen that happen tho, even on painted mirror covers. Looks like they may have not used any flex agent in the painting process if those are plastic covers(?)

You know...the car does have a 3m clear bra...might have had mirror covers too. Maybe if they didn't remove them before they baked it that could happen over the brushed aluminum?

right...well...if they are aluminum...what on earth happened to my mirrors? I can't imagine that just happened on its own sitting in my garage while I was gone. I know it wasn't like that before I brought it to the body shop for repair right before I left...has anyone seen something like this?

Looks like they got painted silver, does it flake off, or is it the aluminum that should be there?

Good call. I rubbed it and ended up with a silver thumb. Why would some one do this to an already aluminum mirror? ...sigh. Guess I am in need of a set of original mirrors. Although...it may end up being cheaper to take them off and have someone sand and re spray them aluminum. I wonder what caused the paint to go to heck on them? Lousy paint job I suppose.

I'd take it back to the bodyshop and say WTF.

Stripping the paint to reveal the aluminum shouldn't be hard tho. Even if the egg bomb stained the aluminum, you can steel wool back the finish.
