View Full Version : A trip to Nordkapp - the end of Europe

I've been on a little trip for a week. A 4500 km trip as a matter of fact. Deceided to go from Stockholm where I live to Nordkapp (Norway) where mainland Europe ends.
Average speed was about 90 km/h so the whole journey took about 50 hours driving time.

This is the sight from Nordkapp. In the summer you can enjoy 24h sunshine here. In the winter I'm not sure if you can enjoy anything around here. But the autumn was ok at least. About +5C, windy and a little rain but no mosquitos what so ever.

This picture is taken in Alta, about 200 km from Nordkapp. Gives you an idea of distances...

My A6 2.7T (MTM) gets a short brake in Norway. Note the 17" studded (or what's left of them) winter tires.

Norway is VERY beautiful. Very nice sights in the fjords.

Nice empty roads for high speed travelling. Most of Finland looks like this. Sweden has both lowlands like this (a nicer word than swamps...) and higher mountains.

BUT, one has to take care about wild animals. Especially reindeers. These ones were licking the salt from the road.

Possibly the world's most stupid animal?

Didn't see this post until now. Quite a trip I must say. Did you do it all by yourself? I guess the deers become your friends after a while.. :D But they ARE pretty stupid. We had the same problem on a skiing trip to Dalarna. They just wouldn't move from the way. It took about 15 minutes before they were done doing whatever they were doing.

Is that the first picture of your own car you've posted here? Get it cleaned and take some more, because it looks good!

Yes it's my car. On 17" winter tires.

I rode with my girlfriend and Lord of The Rings on CD (book).
17 CDs!!! But the atmosphere up there is very similar to the one in the book, a nice fit.

Actually, it was quite strange, but a long time ago the King of Thailand visited Nordkapp so there is now a temple in the cave and a small museum.

Not long ago King Chulalongkorn of Thailand was there as well for some 90 year celebration.

Have a look: http://www.thaiair.com/flying/aroundworld/aroundworld-12.htm

We didn't drive just in Norway, but also highways in Sweden and Finland. Almost no traffic and 'good' weather.
