Hi
Here's a quick story about tie rods. For the inner rod You'd need a special tie rod tool in order to replace it.
Generally it's relatively easy DIY to do. You'd need a couple of wrenches and a long screwdriver to remove iner tie rod clamp (AUDI type pain-in-the-ass one-time-use clamp).
Let's go then:
Remove the wheel. Jack up the car.
11932
Remove two bolts as shown in the picture above.
11933
Loosen two counter-screws shown above. Now You should be able to unsrew the outer tie rod from the inner rod (the outer tie rod is shown as NEW in the picture). If You are trying just to replace outer rods and don't want to go for the whell alignment You should count the numer of turns needed to remove the outer rod (make sure that the iner rod is not turning when counting).
Remove clamps from the boot. The inner one is very hard to remove and You have to play with a flat screwdriver. You have to destroy this clamp in order to remove it. Be sure not to damage the boot.
Remove inner tie rod using a special tool. This was my tool:
11934
11935
Replace the inner rod, the boot and the inner clamp.
11936
Be sure that everything is on place till this point, replace the, outer clamp and screw the outer rod in counting the turns. Tight hex counterscrews, put the outer rod in the proper hole :)
Someone here mentioned dealership 800$ for this job. No way :)
