Aside from the whole faceplate issue that recently came up...no. If you can find a broken c5 rns-e and swap front plates, you should be fine. Just make sure it's not the newer mmi(different connectors).

How do I determine if it is the new MMI?

Look at the back. Then compare to a pic of the back of our Rns-e online. Same? Good. Different? Bad.

thanks for the tips! has any one tried the chinese nock-offs that look very similiar to the factory rns-e? This one is for sale locally but I am very hesitant and don't want to be the guinee pig to first try it...

I'll keep investigating the A3 RNS-E unit. The seller doesn't link that his unit has bluetooth so I'm not as keen.

11902This is what the rear looks like on the A3 unit. Does anyone who's put an RNS-E into your car remember if this looks the same?

Same.

But....I urge you to source a A6 unit. Look for the following PN#'s unless you have a faceplate or a guaranteed source.

4B0-035-192-R
4B0-035-192-P (flashed to US Firmware)

As for the knockoff; thats pricey! I got my RNS-E for way less than that!
