I went to Audi this morning (again) to have a look at the leaking rear gearbox driveshaft seal (partnumber 39221950). it was leaking again after they replaced it about a year ago. but i found out they only replaced the seal instead of the redeveloped part (housing or something..). so now they are looking if it can be replaced under warranty, i said you bet, because at the time they already mentioned that redeveloped part, but (for unknown reason...) didnt fit it, just the seal..

Mine is leaking as well. Common on A8 and RS 6 tranny's.

My independant mech (Master Audi Tech) told me the same thing as your dealer; if the seal (018409399B) is replaced, it will leak again. Best solution is to install the new cover/seal Assy (01V409524A).

$8 part vs $155 part, which one do you think the dealer will replace first under warranty?

Yeah, I did mine a couple of weeks ago. Just the seal. I think it may have leaked initially and now it's fine.

Was a fairly easy replacement.

Just annoyed by the smell of burning oil on the exhaust! Ugh!

So you say that the cover/seal assy is just 155 dollars...? are there us and euro versions?
do you have a link from where i can get one...? is it in a new version of elsawon/etka?
