I am planning on replacing the gear oil in my Final Drive (front and rear) and my Distributor Gear. According to the specs I will require approx 4 litres of G 052 145 S2 gear oil which is a fully synthetic 75W90 oil. Is it critical to use the genuine Audi oil here or what would you recommend otherwise? I have found some very similar stuff that I believe would be perfectly adequate, it is on eBay UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Smith-Allan-EP-75w-90-Fully-Synthetic-Gear-Oil-5-ltr-/250606606374?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleani ng&hash=item3a59515826 and has the below specs (in blue): They seem to match what Blu describe in thier specs here: http://blusynthetic.com/sites/default/files/75W-90%20Technician%20Series%20TDL-FS%20(PDS).pdf

I've never heard of Smith-Allen but they make it sound good. I think I would go with a good synthetic gear oil from Redline, Pentosin, Motul, Lubrimoly, Elf, Mobil, etc... After further searching I see Smith-Allen distributes/rebottles Shell products. They are probably as good as OEM but for ones like Redline, Motul, & Amsoil, I like the fact that they also meet GL6 specifications for wear and I see that Shell (Smith-Allen's Tech data sheet) http://www.smithandallan.com/prodpage.aspx?id=1856 as well as Mobil's and others don't mention GL6, just the GL5. Your only going to change these once in the life of your car, or twice if your going to keep it a long time so I always recommend going with the best oil you can find.
