Auto Spies world exclusive: More 2004 BMW 5-series news and impressions
We tell you more about the exterior design and delivery dates

So you think with all the spy photos floating around, you've seen a reasonable facsimile of the finished BMW 5-series....NOT!

The official final design of the car was just shown to dealer principals a few weeks ago and guess what?

Just as we predicted back in February, the cars design has been toned down...EXTREMELY toned down.

If you don't already know, internally, BMW is FREAKING OUT over the public controversy and reaction of the design of the seven and new Z4.

They also know that if the Five is a flop (the bread and butter of their line) their asses will be blacker than the black forest and head WILL roll.

Our sources tell us that Bangles' future at BMW hangs in the balance of this one cars success.

Back to the look of the car:

The trunk of the five looks nowhere near what the radical spy photos are showing and in the words of our dealer mole...the front lights are not as 'asian' looking as the spy photos portray them.

The only thing we've seen that is close, is the look of the interior.

The official rollout of the car is at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show.

It will be officially unveiled to US dealers at a meeting in September 2003. At the same meeting they will also be shown the new 6-series and X3.

Dealers tell us that they will be able to place their first orders at the same time as the September meeting.

That means you and I won't be able to get our hands on on until mid-November 2003.
