After nine years of patience, I finally gave in and got myself an RS 6. My Audi S8 was stolen from an Audi garage a few months back - I don't want to go into the ins and outs as I want to keep this thread a positive one. But anyway, I've owned a few A8 and S8 models in my time and this is my first RS Audi. It's a 2004 RS 6 Plus in sprint blue with only 36k miles on the clock, a clean bill of health and is my second car. My daily commute is done in a facelift BMW 320 D M Sport Coupe, it does 50+ mpg so balances the economy with the RS 6 well. I've only had her two days so I will get better photos once it's fully detailed. Here are the ones I have so far.

Awesome looking Plus, Seen your thread over on RS246 earlier seems like your over the moon with your purchase! :thumb: You going to keep it standard or do a few mods to it here and there?

Awesome car. Thanks for sharing and welcome.
Is that the stock suspension?

Amar
September 12th, 2011, 23:59
Thanks fellas, the suspension is H&R coilovers - thank god. That's the only mod it has.
It is staying standard for the time being 54m - only mods planned are voice control activation on the RNS E and a smaller aerial. I may go for a milltek and MRC/Viper map if I get bored.

I love those colors, everything looks great together. And I have Avant envy also. Why America? Why can't we embrace the wagon?

forget the wagon, I'm still bent out of shape over no 19" wheels and Recaros for the US market!

RS6 Plus is a nice score though! I wouldn't mind a RHD Audi...even though Korean roads are like the US (drive on the right), I'd been driving with a RHD car for five years, so I'm still kind of adjusting, and find myself drifting to the right of a lane from time to time.

Sorry for the trouble with registering. Great pictures!

Thanks for your kind comments.

I love it out in the US, I've just recently spent some time in LA, Vegas and New York and am coming back again soon. I know you guys get screwed over when it comes to wheels/seats/avants. So if it makes you feel any better. A tank of gas over here costs around $170 US. That should help you all sleep better, and now you understand why I have a daily :harass: BMW.

Dang I just filled up for $70 with 93 octane.

Amar, your car is perfect, love it, the stance and colors are beautiful.

Thanks Skribe, that wouldn't even get me half a tank...!

My BMW does 700 miles on a 63 litre tank of fuel, and has 190 BHP.

What tax do you guys pay on the RS 6? We pay $420 US a year...!

Thanks for all those pictures. Good luck with the new beast.

Yearly plate fees vary by state. In AZ the last time I checked plates they were nearly 800/yr. No way Im paying that fee. Oregon is 20/yr. Guess where I plate my car? :addict: AZ blows with 10% sales tax. Its getting to the point where AZ is getting to be like CA. 10% sales tax. Give me a break.

Yes, if its the VAT you speak of...I can understand. We have our share of tax around every corner, state income tax rates are increasing every year it seems. Then you lump on the Federal income tax and it layer upon layer of tax tax tax.

It is what it is and the bunker just gets dug alittle deeper. Poverty rates are sky high and climbing in the US right now. I just noticed a news story where gangs of teenagers are robbing local stores beating the staff to near death. Awesome.

Interesting that you can just register in another state, and wow, what a saving, well we pay 20% tax here in the UK on goods/services.

Bummer, ours just went DOWN 1% to 7.75%. It's also <$300 for registration each year. ;)

Amar, welcome aboard!

I paid a flat $250 based on the original sticker price of the RS6 for initial registration, and $250 in sales tax. Renewal is $15 or something thereabouts per year and can be done online. Yep, I drove nine hours to get to this DMV, and it was worth it. I did have to have a paper trail a mile long to prove residency, but I had that well prepared in advance :)

My car has some damage on the grill and front bumper (series of scratches) that I need to get sorted. I'm going to sort the bumper this weekend, but as the grill won't take long. I decided to pop the brand new one that had just arrived before work

Fairly simple, pull out the old grill, apply some 'dodo juice rainforest rub' wax onto the Audi rings of the brand new grill to protect them.*

Old & New (the old one has the RS 6 badge still on it)

Swap the badges across...

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/9cbf61fb.jpg

Whilst I had the grill off, I cleaned in between the nooks and crannies you don't usually see and finished with some more dodo juice.

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/1f9be540.jpg

Then I fitted the new grill.*

Before

After

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/8efac425.jpg

It was only a very small series of scratches as you can see, but I want this car completely mint. Just need to see if the scratches on the bumper will polish out now.

I also spent some time today 'de bobbling' the alcantara seats. For a car with only 36,000 miles they really are showing lots of wear.

Before

After

The amount of bobbling I collected

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/32653654.jpg

Just need to do all the alcantara in raceglaze alcantara cleaner now, it's already lifted out some marks in the alcantara.

On Saturday, I dealt with the engine bay. With the help of cotton ear buds, brushes, cloths some G101 all purpose cleaner and some aerospace 303 protectant. I forgot to take a before picture, but it looked like this.

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/19672537.jpg

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/b1ebd4fd.jpg

I ended up with this ( I later cleaned the outside section of the engine too, but haven't got an updated picture)*
Ignore the ripped sofa, it was it's final resting place before the tip, my dad was going to take it in the RS, but he left it out and it's too dirty now so isn't allowed in it...!

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/DSC_0166.jpg

Decided to test out my new rotary, moving on from my G220. I only did half the bonnet. The process was...

Menz IP on a CYC mild cutting pad
Then Megs show car glaze on a finishing pad
Dodo Juice rainforest rub wax
Zaino Z8
Of course, I washed and clayed beforehand too. Next weekend, I'm doing the whole car.*

First, I quickly and rather carelessly masked 'er up.

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/DSC_0177.jpg

I'm pleased with the correction I got. It's hard to pick up with the camera though.

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/DSC_0209.jpg

The interior looks awesome in the flesh, originally, it was the only thing I wasn't sure about. But after I spent a few hours on it, it looks awesome. The camera just doesn't pick up how good it looks in the flesh. As the car only has 36k miles, it still has the new car smell. Which is further enhanced by my use of Gliptone on the leather and leather air fresheners under two seats.*

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/DSC_0181-1.jpg

G101 really is all purpose...

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv19/AmarS8/3375cca5.jpg

This is just a shot of her showing off before I put her away for the week, she won't be started until Saturday when I start the proper detail.*

Thanks guys, I've been to Washington State a few years back. I crossed the border from British Columbia, Canada. Honestly, I love the US. I only spent just under three weeks there last year, and will spend another two this year (Vegas and LA for Christmas) but plan to go over every year, 2012 it will be Miami.
Ben - I was a little disappointed by this too - turns out they didn't bother for the right hand drive versions, but I'm looking into fitting a set of Phaeton ones instead which are similar.
The engine took around three hours, half the bonnet about 45 mins, interior about 4 hours. The correction detail this weekend will take about 20 hours, I'm just glad I don't have to pay myself!

Up here in Washington it varies somewhat county to county and city to city but I pay about $55 per year for licensing and a fill-up costs me about $90 in the RS6. Sales tax about 8.5% but no income tax here.

Beautiful and rare RS6+ Avant there.
