Brake light issue

This is strange....no lights on brake lights all work properly. When lights are on only the third brake light comes on when you depress pedal....checked vag....nothing. Any suggestions?

gotta be the switch, or a connection/harness in the trunk????

It is not surprising that you have no warning as someone recently had a transmission failure and no CEL until AFTER the car was in the shop...?!?!?
