Hi

My poor RS6's right rear rotor has hit the dreaded Metal on Metal phase producing a groove in the right rear rotor. I suppose it's time for new rear rotors and pads ASAP as hard stopping makes a nasty sound.

I have thought of a couple of options

A) go to dealer, have not contacted them for a quote yet.

B) go to NTB they will do rear brake rotor/pad replacement for $150 labor
I would source the following parts:

Rotors: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-REAR-High-Performance-CROSS-DRILLED-Brake-Rotors-/260829063010?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARS6&hash=item3cba9fa762

Pads: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320642032530&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

NTB option is about $1250 all in. Any insight, advice or other options appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

PS how long can I drive in current condtion with gentle braking without freezing up the rear calipers. I am assuming mine are still good:doh:

Now I am seeing these options OEM drilled rotors and EBC Red pads from Partsgeek:

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2003/audi/rs6/brake/brake_rotor.html

Anyone have experience with them?

Left REAR Ventilated 4B3615601C (GenuineVWAudi = $273)
Right REAR Ventilated 4B3615602A (GenuineVWAudi = $273)

EBC reds for the back = Parts unlimited or something like that - I would steer CLEAR of Ebay...
EDIT: you have it right on the pads

Rent the piston retraction tool for $20

Thinking this setup should do the trick, does one need 2 "sets" of rear brake pads for both rear rotors or does one set contain four pads which are enough to cover both rear rotors? Thanks!

What is up with the price difference?!?!?

Pads are fine, recommend to NOT go with OEM pads though... too much dust, and those rivets in the pads... no bueno!

Hey, genuine doesn't support parts lookup for rs6. You can input the part number(see above) and it will still pull it up.

^^^ yep, that is why I gave you the part number...
Genuine doesn't have aftermarket parts (read as the EBC Reds...)

I just did the rears on mine. got 71000 miles on the rear rotors, and about 60,000 on the rear pads. I went with OEM from genuine. The local audi dealer not only undercut the price for me, but i didn't have to eat the shipping. So I paid about $252 per rear OEM rotor, plus labor. I have EBC red pads on from 10k miles ago, the pads are fine.

FWIW, i just re-ordered my front rings as my front rotors are shot. $160 each plus SH.

So. to recap. Front set of rotors: $320 total. Rear set of rotors $500 total.

Thanks for playing, please come again soon.

I bought the rotors and pads should arrive today. Dealer wanted $340 in labor to install & NTB wants $150. I am going independant. I advised dealer of this and they said bad idea bc you need special tools, I advised that I thought NTB had the same auto leveling tools that dealer had to match each side. Can any one advise if caution needs to be used when replacing the Rear rotors/pads using an independant (non dealer) tech? Thanks,

What is that?
Of course, I didn't replace the rotors, just the pads...

The only thing I would be concerned with is to make sure the piston rubber boot is NOT ripped...
Make sure your indy cleans up back there, I wire wheeled the hub so there isn't any debris...

Pretty sure he has JHM Rotors which are 2-piece (rotor is available for replacement separately).

Your best price will be genuine or audionlineparts.

I have done business with partsgeek.com

They are legit, just make sure your part numbers are accurate, they seem to have weird cross-references, sometimes.

Josh,

I had glitch ordering from partsgeek b/c my shipping address and billing address are in diff states so although they did right by me it was a nightmare getting the order to go through.

Can you or some one advise me the how to fill the cart. on genuine with a set of front brake pads as well as everything neccessary for an oil change on the beast? Sorry to appear inept, help is much appreciated.

Happy Friday,

The best thing to do on Genuine's site is to create an account and log into that account so relevant personal information is saved.
You can save favorites (meaning you can save CARTS of stuff) so you don't have to re-type in the part numbers again and again.
You can have the shipping address and the billing address different or same but they don't deliver to p.o. boxes.

Do you REALLY want OEM brake pads?
