What is wrong with my headlights?

I'm driving and flip the stalk for the high beams and it takes from 5 to 8 seconds before they switch to the high beams. If i pull back on the stalk, they flash on instantly. Bad contacts on the stalk switch? If that is it, any way to clean the contacts?

Sounds like your combination switch is faulty...There's a ribbon tape between the stalk and the body that cracks over time. It's probably making intermittent contact. Pretty common failure.
