I know Audi made their S cars rival the BMW *35i/50is and the MB 350s/500s and the RS cars compete with BMW Ms and MB AMGs. Where does this leave the S8?
According to the leaked ETKA figures, the next S8 will produce 518hp. This is in the league of the Alpina B7, Jaguar XJ Supersport, Porsche Panamera S/4S and Maserati Quattroporte. What about the S63 AMG?
Which one is in no man's land, the S8 or the S63? All the other full size sports saloons are in this range except for the S63.

What about a Mercedes-Benz S65 ?
Special order only of course .... I don't think you'll drive to your local dealer and pick one off the lot. :hihi:

by the time the supposed S8 shows up it might be 2018 and by then the 550i will be making 500 hp.

2018? In the leaked ETKA, it says Nov. 2011 but it could be a bit earlier.

The current B7 Alpina can be had with AWD. I see the S8 as the less absurdly priced and more reserved looking competition to the S63, but since it is the short wheelbase version I think the Alpina with AWD is dead on in terms of apples to apples. Honestly though I do not think an AMG buyer at that level is cross comparing the S8. Its AMG or Porsche Panamera (which is just too ugly for me) I think its a different bio of buyer of what they are after. Same with the entire Audi line really. I'm inching up into the S8s demographic as I want another large sedan and as I'm creeping up past 40 now the big luxo whale is appealing to me more and more, (and i can afford a smaller faster sports car to go with it) but I am stuck on hp since the RS6 so the A8 does not do it for me but an S6,7,8 will and certainly an RS of any of those. Do i want an AMG anything. Nope. The Alpina for rarity etc intrigues me with the AWD but BMW lost me on the styling still.
