I am on a trip with my friends and my car started making an aweful air leak noise. I think I found the hose that is the problem. It is a large hose where the clamp is no longer around the hose on the passengersidepassenger side Do you think this is as simple as reclamping the hose. Could this be indicative of a larger problem?

No codess have been thrown

Thanks and sorry for the poor post, I am on my phone.

Sounds like a loose clamp or an old hose. When the hoses get older and subject to heat the rubber gets harder and even with the clamp they don't grip as well. Sounds like an intercooler hose? Need to go to Silicone hoses and Constant tension clamps, really necessary when chipping the car because of the higher boost pressures.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Lower driver side intercooler hose came off partially. Got under there, cleaned er out, and reinstalled. I am using stock hoses and t-bolt clamps. Turned out, that one clamp wasn't all the way tight. Almost, but not quite.

I am pretty sure it is the intercooler hose. I am going to try to reclamp it to get me home (and avoid boost).

Thanks again as always.

Chung, are you far from home or can you shove the hose back on and limp it back. Without the clamp tight you will have to drive it like a sedate sedan, staying out of the boost. That doesn't mean you can't let it rev, you just need to accelerate slowly so the boost doesn't rise, try to use less than half throttle and see if it holds.

I am in about 200 miles from home. The hose slipped about 150 miles into the trip but as you have mentioned as long as I don't put the gas down the car drives normally. The hose never actually disconnected the clamp is off the hose though and if I go into boost it screams at me. I am pretty sure I will be able to limp home. What is a bummer is I was going to use this weekend away from the city to do my car logs for Dave. I guess that will wait for another time. I think the car was trying to save me from myself as I got a speeding ticket and I am sure if I had boost i would have been arrested :)

I just ordered the venair kit (more than $100 but less than Audi hoses i am sure). Do you have a recommended place on where to get the clamps?

For less than ECS pricing on regular T Bolt clamps just go to Amazon and search Constant Torque T Bolt clamp or search in Google. They expand and contract slightly with Temp and will give the same or better seal than regular T Bolt clamps without damaging the hose like T Bolt clamps that are over tightened can making a weak spot. The Constant Torque type are common in general aviation on Turbochaged engines.

I have a noise like that but no drop in performance.

The mechanic thought it might be a stuck diverter valve...

I did a vagcom log and the boost numbers recorded were in spec so if I do have a boost leak there is enough reserve boost to hold the spec called for by the ECU programing.

I have not had a chance to test the diverter valves....

Made it home. I reattached the hose/clamp and drove home. The hose seemed to hold and hopefully will hold until I get the new hoses installed. Thanks for everyone's help.
