Hi guys,

I'm not happy with the sound from the rs5 exhaust, I have already disconnected the exhaust flap so it is open all the time but its still extremely quiet, so looking at options to fix that without buying a full exhaust.

My initial thoughts were to maybe remove the centre muffler and replace with some straight through pipes as you can see in the attached pics, that way i could plug the exhaust flap back in if i wanted aswell.

Any assistance\ideas would be appreciated, thanks Craig.

take a capristo system with valve control and you will have a better sound and a real flap control system. or another option is HMS which is a brillant soud + xpipe....

I have installed tje capristo on mine, already a great sound. now I will install the HMS as it sounds even better (but maybe a bit much for some guys).

and pleae do invest in something other than a adaptation of OEM. I think that if you were able to buy the RS5 you can pay for the exhsust system right ?

There isn't any local places doing modifications for the RS5 here as yet.

I cant find costs for the HMS but for example, a €4000 exhaust is nearly $5500 AUD before shipping and fitting costs, so it adds up pretty quick.

I was hoping to get some noise from the OEM exhaust until there is a better option.

The list prices of the HMS exhzust for the RS5 is as follows:

1) Exhaust system Audi RS5:
2.528,54 Euro

2) X-Pipe Audi RS5:
285,36 Euro

Prices are excluding VAT and shipping.

You could perfectly only change the Xpipe, this will increase the sound and increase some performance as well at the same time at little cost.

If you want the real thing then you need to go to change both:

its fabulour sound.... I'll get it installed on my RS5 next monday...

They look like good options, thanks for the info.

If you could update us when you have had it fitted that would be great.

We are expecting some sound clips ;)

Does X-Pipe from RS5 fit to Audi S5 with milltek exhaust or they are also producing S5 exhausts? Any pics of that X-pipe? Also if you know is it alot of drone with that exhaust?

Kind Regards

When cruising valve closed 3000rpm no issues its confortable. when valver open and goign into rpms..... wowww you feel this is race car hyou are drving almost..... love it... easy to install 2 hours 30 minutes and we remioved the capristo and placed the HMS.

I ended up getting the center muffler taken out and 2 straight pipes put in, worked out very well.

Sounds great, its louder significantly under throttle and the gear change pops and rev matching are awesome. still quiet though when cruising say at 100km's.

Thx for responce. I wrote to Akrapovic company about exhaust system to RS5 and they told me: "It is on the wish list for 2012. Wait for confirmation...". I'll wait for news and after that i decide what to buy, Akrapovic or HMS. :). When do you have a trip to Czech Republic with RS5 (HMS) get me know, i'll take you to coffee :P, i really want to see HMS live.

I have proposed three times to Akrapovic (I sell them as well) to haev mly RS5 for a coupe of month to make the developement ans they told me they were not interested as the RS5 is no interste for them...

To hear the HMS is very easy the official video is reflectign 100% the real sound... if you like what you hear you will be very happy of HMS. don't wait for akrapovic.... you will be dead before they react.... they do like 3/4 cars per year only.... pffffffffffff

Have anybody tested ABT Exhaust?

youry
January 26th, 2012, 12:57
well no real interest as ther is no XPIPE option. HMS is the way to go for sure with the vavle system. ABT noise is just a little louder than original. to do that better is to do nothing in my view

Hi,

What is differences between normal and x-pipe?

Do you know differences between audi original exhaust and audi sport exhaust system for RS5??

Thx

youry
January 30th, 2012, 21:08
normal means no flow exchange from left to right. XPIPE. means you make a connection right after the downpipes to equilibrate the counterpressures. always a good thing to do. I reckon I dont' understand why neither BMW neither AUDI does it on their V8 engines. all good exhsust manufactures do it.

difference between std and sport AUDI exhaust are in middle and rear mufflers which their part number differ. whihc would mean they have opened up a little the sound.... frankly speking I've heard both and the difference is not worth it. far beter to take std and change with aftermarket.... It is different for a TTRS where the sport version is more differente that std. and I reckon a TTRS sport version is good as is in sound for exemple (I show you this example for you not to think I am pushing for a sale, but being objective about things)

Hi,

do you know something about this? Same with X-pipe: http://shop.revotechnik.com/products/552/supersprint-exhaust-system-for-audi-rs5-42i-v8.aspx

youry

Supersprint does nor sell with valves. So this is either not a supersprint or a modified one off version! We spoke with the supersprint guys and tols us they would nor go with valves...

this si very well made video marketing wise. but the sound of it and the functionality is beter and exists since over 2 years from HMS tuning. I am resellign these products and have sold a lot of these exhausts to RS5 owners.... it is the best exhaust around fro RS5s.... no doubt.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSlfhZpXhT0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFH4dxr35bk

when closed its calm, when its open irs pure FERRARI V8 sound. its simply unblievable you are able to get that sound from this engine... I perosnlaly changed two tims exhsusts on my RS5 and once HMS was on, it was IT.... impossible the change or find better

Glad you like it. The exhaust in your link is nice but baby if you compare it :)
The inconel exhaust I posted has full de cat manifolds . The extra power and sound is amazing.

hi youry,
long time no talk, been busy with my car in Australia,
I got the RS5 headers from felix and about to install them, also run non resonated down pipes with X-converter in the centre and KLine rear mufflers (the louder version),
the sound is epic, dont get me wrong here the HMS is my second best, only got couple videos (youtube) so far cause it's still settling in ...

the big question is what is the gains on a dyno same day before and after fitting the headers... as given the difficulty of installing them. there is very little customers that will go through the trouble.

Have already someone Akrapovic on RS5? I have HMS and i want to know some compare of these exhausts. Thx

youry
January 29th, 2014, 20:26
absolutely no doubt HMS sound will be better than akrapovic, now in terms of quality of the finish of the exhaust as well as weight savings of 8 Kgs AKRA is simply the best in the industry (alligned with high pricing of course). the end tips (carbon) are also unique in the industry as all other brands do not provide separate end tips

if goal is sound.... AKRA is nice but not as orgasmic as HMS (with XPIPE). by the way AKRA does not provide a XPIPE option and is not CE homologated. we had this exhaust in our booth during the BrusselsAUTO SHOW.
