interesting. this bodes well for the A4/A5 range since audi is obviously committed to expanding the use of the TT S engine. since the new 35th anniv GTI has an updated 2.0T 235 hp engine the 2012-13 A4/A5 should offer close to 250 hp.

Whatever it is, Audi better react quickly as BMW is already testing tri-turbo diesel X3 with 380ps and 760Nm of torque here in UAE.

Haha. I wish I was on them sometimes on this heat. It's already 40 C.
Anyways, got the previous info from a close friend that works for them.
Best,

Mercedes have also looked at this possibility though I don't know whether things ever progressed much beyond the concept of it.

This is most likely TDI version Q5S ...

The bi-turbo 3.0TDi is due very soon in both the A6 and A7, 310ps is mentioned so I think a figure of 350ps is quite possible from this engine. Now if you were to tell me that Audi intended to offer both a petrol and diesel version of an S version on a Q5 with one (petrol) having 333ps and the other (diesel) having 310ps well then I could reckon it's highly likely. Though I don't know whether this engine will be used as a diesel alternate for an S6/7 but I do hope I'm wrong because I would love the notion of a 350ps performance diesel A6.

I reckon all this nonsense about TDI in S-cars is just that - BS. There might be such powerful diesels but they won't be S badged.

If as you say that BMW are soon to release a tri-turbo diesel 380ps unit then I would say to you that this isn't your average BMW and will most likely wear a badge above the normal, now since BMW don't have an in between badge like Audi do then they will either have to creat one or give it the M badge. Either way if this does come and either gets an M badge or something new then Audi will follow, no question in that but luckily Audi do have two performance badges in the S and RS so it's logical to think that such a rival to the BMW would wear the S badge.

The future is diesel as far as the rest of the world is concerned, maybe not America as yet but when you see that almost 70% of sales are from diesel units it's logical to assume that this is an untapped market of performance cars.

But this still doesn't answer my question that if BMW do offer a tri-turbo 380ps diesel then chances are that this won't wear a normal BMW badge as all the others and if this happens then Audi will follow suit. It's only a matter of time before we will see a diesel S and possible RS Audi.
