I am interested in hearing your experience with Mercedes, DHall I understand you had issues with the E55, I am interested in the SL65 & wanted to hear what speedtrapped has thought o far of the CL65 he picked up....Testing the waters here considering selling my RS6 to someone & picking up one of these, should I?

Already? lol. Stephen loves his SL, its a different kind of beast, he prefers the RS6 though. Whichever way you decide, you are still welcome at the next test-n-tune. Jerry will be there, so if you do go MB, you can get it tuned then as well.

are u sure u want me to tell ya the truth?????, ok ...I really do like the lines of my CL......huge engine stuffed in a small spot, sound familiar, But I have been told the 275 AMG engine is bulletproof, from 2 reputable MB techs....that said, I just eurocharged her, and def there is a diff, but the car pulls more methodically, meaning, u have to really be heavy footed to get her to jump, and that has alot to do with the RS6's responsiveness post some mods...also def get an after mkt warranty, trust me..the car is 2x expensive if not more then that to do repairs, ask me how I know......I have had the car for 4 weeks, took her out for a NW NJ drive saturday, nice roads hills, fun....on the way back, 45 miles from home....CEL, and suddenly limp mode(btw a 1st for me, and limp mode sucks!!!!!), also heard strange drone under my feet....fried pre-cats?? so I get home and pull codes, passengerside coil pack likely shot, the whole side misfiring...I dbl checked an old work order from previous owner, MB dealership replaced coil packs 14 months ago, apparantly a common problem.....$1k per pack, per side!! not including labor!!!, again my friend WARRANTY...it is covered, but also need to know if pre-cat has been fried in process, sounds like it....unburnt dumped fuel, burning in cats??? I just bought rotors, only for front, they are 30% bigger then the RS6 and they are floating, $1450.00 shipped to my door....that said, am I disappointed about coil packs..YES, is the car fun to drive, YES...RWD with that much torque is alot of fun, if u dont mind going thru tires.....

SL65 is just plain a sweet ride. If you can get the warranty for 4 or 5 years then go for it. Not really the same road feel car as the RS6 but I would drive it. We almost considered a SL55 but the repeated failures in the E55 have killed those ideas. And I think Speedtrapped has outlined why you need the warranty.

Nistah...I just got off the phone with dealership, new coil packs and O2's all covered by national warranty premium plus, $100 deductable for $3k worth of parts and labor.....btw, I think if ur looking for style then I understand the SL65, but like Dave said the RS6 is ALOT more fun to drive.

Interesting thread...I've been considering selling my 996 Turbo for a SL65...

Wifey wants a convertable and I can't find another car with a hardtop convertable and a pair of turbo's...

Mike i was blown away, the dealership service manager called me and said, you have a great warranty on the car....def makes the ownership factor for these cars more palatable...they really are much more expensive to fix then are RS6's....I really do like the way car drives.

So really the only difference between the SL and CL is the fixed roof? Same TT V12 with the same power?

yes, as far as I know.

I almost got a CLK 63 Black Series before I ended up with the RS6. I always wanted one but when I drove it I said.... Wait a minute. This is a track car and I thought it was quite impractical. Certainly beautiful especially if you have other rides. I am not too crazy with muscle car sound though. Certainly sounds like the F1 pace car though.

Before the RS6, I had an E55 (older style '99 MY). I never had an issue with the car. Not once. However, I went through rear tires at a prodigious rate. They wore a lot faster than I expected, anyway. They were the Michelin PS2s, though, which are known for rapid wear. So, I felt it was always tricky to get the power down. And, I drove with the traction control on.

Family has owned multiple MBs now for over 40 years. ZERO major issues. Nothing.

Best friend has an E63 and is happy. His wife drives the latest E350 4matic wagon. HATES the steering feel. However, not one of their cars has ever had a major issue, either.

So, when I look back on my RS6 ownership, it's been TWO replacements of the DRC, a torque converter and at least two sets of front control arms. That's in roughly 52K of ownership. Seems to me that if MB can design stuff to last, Audi also ought to be able to. But, that's just me. Guess I'm funny like that!

I can't disagree with experience, but in my short time of ownership, there are some items that fail on the big M275 motors, or v12tt..mainly coil packs, and basically it's a coil bar per side. I merely suggest getting a warranty, just saved me $3k. Other then that several smart MB techs say the M275 engine is billet proof...and has gobs of power.

The price of admission justifies taking the ride....I am going to have to have one of these next spring.....The question will be wether I keep the RS6 or the TT....

Been toying with the idea of a CLK Black Series for some time. Really do like it a lot. I also like the SL63 and 65s. Have had SLs before and they depreciate terribly. All MB and AMG products seem to, though. Audi's no exception, either.

I think MB went over the top on the SL65 Black Series. WAY too pricey for what it is. But, to each their own.

This may be a more compelling option: More $, but more exclusivity...
