On this thread: http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/22306-Porsche-now-fully-part-of-the-VW-empire-what-does-it-mean-for-Audi

and this link: http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Features/printer_6323.shtml

people are actually talking about the next generation Audi R8. Does this mean Audi will really make a new version in 2014?

Why wouldn't they?!! It's been huge success for the brand, paving way as a halo car for other high-performance Audis since its introduction. Yes it's coming no doubt about it! Currently under development, with massive use of latest combined alu / carbon-fiber chassis know-how...

I'm sure I read somewhere that it had alredy been signed off.

signed off?

Been approved by Audi board.

My take: 99,9% that we will see an R8 Mk. II

concept/new model to take the world by storm in frankfurt 2013.

So there will be a completely new model, aside from the NF?

of course, next generation with ''nf technology'' incorporated. no ''R8 nf'' on its own...

ah...that's good to know. Some articles say the nf is a new variant while other articles say the nf is the codename of a new supercar. I'm really thinking of getting an R8 in it's 2nd gen when my '09 RS6 gets 'old'.

darkop and all of you...you guys seem to know a lot of VAG insider info. how's that possible...just wondering...

You just need to be so obsessed (if not pathetic) with it to go through hundreds of forums and websites every day and it'll come to your knowledge easily!

nf is nothing but engineering jargon for a chassis composition concept. the R8 will continue as the R8 and will continue to be called that. what i still call BS on is the quattro concept- i still think it is going to be the next RS5.

i came across this article from AutoCar about the R8 GT and it also mentions the next gen r8. also hinting at carbon fiber in the chassis(a.k.a. nf) and a 2013/2014 launch

found a new article about the 2014 R8. Again, it talks about the lightweight components in the structure...much like the R8 NF articles

that was an interesting article made bona fide by the specific quotes from the var. audi heads that were interviewed. 100 kg is about 220 lbs, not a huge amount of weight compared to Italia and MP4 12C but they may be able to shed even more weight before 2014. looks like development is on track as expected since new LP600-4 is due MY 2013 with debut in Paris 2012.

MY2013? why aren't there spy pics yet? are lambo prototypes only tested for 1-2 years?

The logical step would be to put the slightly stronger RS5 V8 in a slightly lighter R8 chassis for the base V8 model and then run with a V10 in LP560 tune for the V10 model.

i expect the next base V10 to basically be the current GT albeit with even lighter weight- maybe as low as 3200 lbs.

That would be very light (1450kg), but here's to hope. Probably marginally more likely than a 999kg Gallardo though. ;)
