It has arrived...

EDIT:

"It’s as close as you’ll get to a 911 racer for the road. Porsche has revealed the first images and details of the limited-edition GT3 RS 4.0 – a lightweight, track-focused 911 with 493bhp.

Unlike other GT3 models in the line-up – which use a
3.8-litre flat-six cylinder engine – the newcomer gets the
same 4.0-litre powerplant as Porsche’s GT3 RSR racing
car. It’s the largest motor ever to be fitted to a 911.

The model is 10kg lighter than the already featherweight GT3 RS, at only 1,360kg, thanks to the use of thin bucket seats, lightweight racing suspension, a carbon fibre bonnet and front wings, plus plastic rear windows. With the additional power – 49bhp more than the GT3 RS – the RS 4.0 promises to shave one-tenth off the 0-62mph sprint time, completing the benchmark in 3.9 seconds. It hits 124mph in 12 seconds.

There are a few extra aerodynamic tweaks, too, including
a redesigned front bumper which incorporates small turning vanes mounted on either side of the car. These are called ‘flics’, and they help to increase downforce at the front
end, resulting in improved grip through corners.

Visually, the RS 4.0 is marked out by unique Carrara
White paint with grey and red detailing, as well as special badging and decals. The stripped-out, lightweight cabin mimics the exterior’s white, red and grey colour scheme.
The seats are made of Alcantara and leather, while the sat-
nav, radio and air-conditioning are all left out to cut weight.

Porsche’s Clubsport package, comprising a rollcage, seatbelt harnesses, a fire extinguisher and a battery cut-
off switch, comes as standard; it’s an optional extra on
the GT3 RS. The RS 4.0 goes on sale in July, priced from £128,466 – that’s around £25,000 more than the GT3 RS

The 3.8 GT3 RS made those number, so maybe a little conservative.

Yes, I noticed that to. I'm expecting this to be even quicker!

I would predict about 3.5s to 60 and ~11s to 124mph, given the that is has ~370hp/ton.

That sounds about right, we'll just wait and see.. It will be quick, and not just in a straight line.

Pure porn. I can not think of any other car I would rather get. This car holds even more appeal to me than, dare I say it, the R8 V10. The R8 GT would be super close but I'm, thinking, even pricier. I am curious what the USD MSRP will be as well as what arrival time here Stateside will end up being. I just can't really think of how Porsche could have done any better. And 125hp per liter... what else is there to say? I want one.

i think it'll be about 175K USD. a moderately optioned GT3 RS is 150K. so, less than the GT2 RS, which remains the king of porsches. a great car nonetheless, and one to be well respected given its attributes and design. just saw another GT3RS go into the wall this saturday- and it was being driven by a well known guy.... and a very good driver. i'd still stick to the more forgiving R8 GT if i had the option. oh.... and another modded GTR bit the dust this weekend- though not because of the mods, but because the driver turned the traction control system off. two examples of how much respect a sportscar demands.

I'm with you, this seems like a proper drivers car. Some cars are faster but would them deliver the same kind of fun along the way? I'm hoping to see EVO taking it for a spin.

GT3 RS 4.0 - £128,466
MP4-12C - £175,000Crap, remind me why we complain about car prices over here???

Ok, I wonder what a decked out GT3 RS 4.0 would be compared to a decked out MP4 as I heard the trick suspension options as well as other performance upgrades for the MP4 drive up the cost real quick. Neither of these vehicles is "cheap" but I stand corrected on the MP4 being 2-3 times the cost. That makes the MP4 even better "bang for buck".

But I am still LOVING the 4.0!

That's just a re-used GT3 clock with the redline at 8400rpm. This produces peak power at 8250rpm and is essentially an RSR engine (rev-limit 9400rpm).

The trick suspension is stock. Sticky tyres are optional as are ceramic brakes.

Some cars you do get cheaper.

Bedford lap time 1:21.0 (GT3 RS - 1:21.9, GT2 RS 1:19.9)

They don't appear to have got the best from it though. Looking at the figures for the 3.8, it's clear that the 4.0 clearly out-performs it on some corners but they overcook the braking in others. 60mph through the Beckham Esses shows the real potential.

RXBG

at that price range i'd do the ferrari in an instant.

Z07
July 22nd, 2011, 19:40
Strange. Here in the UK the 458 is £175,000 base price and £228,000 as tested in Evo. The GT3 RS 4.0 was only £128,000 as tested. Funny how it depends on where you live.

For the record, the RS 4.0 in the Evo test didn't have the optional half-cage and 5-point harness.
