Brake pad warning light came on yesterday.

I've seen several posts saying the stock pads are not good. Is there a consensus on what to use for moderately aggressive street driving? EBC yellowstuff or redstuff? Pagid? Hawk? Jurid?

Is there an alternative to the stock rotors, or at least a place that has them for less than $340 a wheel?

I paid $800 for a set of front rotors. They are not cheap!

EBC Red stuff for low dust. Must do a VERY gentle break-in over first 3-500 miles. Next time I may go with Hawk.

And if you send them off to Frozen Rotors (no affiliation or fee paid to me), shipping is $70, process is $100 and includes shipping back.
The squeal was horrendous for the first 600 miles with the REDS, but with some high speed moderate braking, things settled and no more squeals.

Their website does not list the rs6 as a model option for 2003.

Correct, they don't list any RS models, but all the RS parts are there!

Just enter the part # you need and enter your VIN upon checkout and you will receive the correct part. You can call if you feel more comfortable, lots of us use Genuine.

If you need to search for parts you can use ETKA or ECS Tuning to find the part #, then port it over to Genuine.

I sent them an email.

Someone just put a set of four rotors and stoptech pads up on ebay for $1074. I emailed him to get pricing on the rotors alone, and the rotors with redstuff pads. We'll see who gives the better price.

I hope its not these; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-RS6-03-04-R-Drilled-Slotted-Rotors-Stoptech-Pads-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35afe40537QQitemZ23058 4223031QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

Those are Junk. RS rotors are special, and its not a good place to use sub par parts.

That ebay listing is for TWO rotors and FOUR pads.. not a set of four rotors all around.

ballywizard;

Are you sure you need new rotors? Are they chewed up by the OEM pads (grooved)?

You can check the thickness to confirm;
Front disc thickness minimum 32mm
Rear disc thickness minimum 20mm

I made some inquiries to see what I can get for brake rotors and pads.
Any one heard of DBA : Disk Brake Australia? They should be in the process of producing RS6 rotors..
For pads:
Ferodo is used a lot here, but when I asked for prices the distributor mentioned that the Ferodo DS2500 would not be up to the job and adviced Formel ceramic pads
Does any of you heard of/used Formel pads?

I had DBA rotors on my s4 and they were great. Lasted and never warped and got beat on pretty hard. The gold accents looked slick too.

JHM also makes an acceptable aftermarket option for the RS 6 discs;

What do you think, would this kit work on our cars as the RS4 caliper is the same although I think the RS4 Hub gives a different offset? It might be better in the long run instead of going with the C6 RS6 rotor kit from Unit 20. http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/front-rotor-ringspair-big-380mm-jhm-lightweight-for-b7-rs4-p-675.html?osCsid=39fa0bbf708578ffc31ce17c33f17a6c

Your link isn't working, but I assume your talking about their 380mm RS4 upgrade? I believe their lightweight disc replacements for the RS4 and the RS6 are the same part. In my mind this means they should be able to sell the 380mm disc paired with their RS6 hats, and it should work for our application. I'll have to send them an email and double check. I'll probably be going with the JHM rotors on my next brake replacement for the weight savings, but let it be known that I think they look ridiculous. I hate how the pad doesn't use the whole friction surface of the disc. Why didn't they make a larger hat?

Your right Pat on both accounts, the link didn't work and I was talking about the 380mm rotors. I did send them and E-mail a couple of hours ago and will report back when I hear from them. They have those 380mm rotor rings on sale right now for a couple hundred off. It's almost too bad I have my car sitting in the shop on the lift with new OEM rotors & pads with 0 miles on them right now.

Yea that's weird, open it, close it, then open it again and it works? Who knows why.....actually that's not an invitation for a computer software nerd to lecture me on the reason, I really don't want to know why :)

To go for 380mm rotors, you need 19" rims and a new caliper adapter, right?

The kit listed above comes with rotors & adapters but says RS4. I asked the question about our cars but they haven't gotten back to me yet. The Cayenne Turbo S also has 380mm front rotors I see, although who knows what offset they are.

Well guess I have to stick with the "standard" RS6 rotor diameter then, because I want to use 18" rims for my winter-setup. As soon as I have finished this set of winter-tires.

There's no less than 30 threads on cheap replacement rotors and pads on this forum, if you paid 1850 for brake parts, then shame on you.

Seriously, $1850? Like V8weight said, you might as well have bought the parts and then set $1000 on fire. Ouch indeed.

Just finished my complete (4) OEM Rotor and EBC Redstuff brake job last Friday

Cost: $1260 :)

I ill reiterate my cost for my front rotors.... $190 each for the ring... so my front rotor cost is $380 for slotted rotors... pads are whatever you wish to bring to table..i think i paid $170 for my EBCs, so my total cost was $560 plus labor.

Bump!

So did anyone replace their rear rotors with Phaetons (4E0 615 601 L) ones?
If so, was it direct swap?
