The nice brown truck dropped a package at the door- again. I hadn't replaced anything in a couple of weeks...

Watch out idjuits!

That's what mine looked like with 90k miles on the clock. I would venture to say that these are pretty busted up in every RS6 on the road, regardless of mileage. This is a worth while upgrade just for the simple fact that this think is probably junk in every car.

Thanks Pat! I would never have thought about replacing this part without your postings.

Yeh me too. Now if I only had a garage and my car wasn't still on a truck.... Tomorrow AM it will be here in NY just in time for some snow.

You need to find a new "Pat Cave" somewhere in Albany! This move is going to severely slow progress on the beast. :)

I am working on it -- I will send you some pdfs of what is in the works -- maybe I can fly you here round trip when I need your help. :)

The OEM bushing can be replaced as well. The bushing is ~$40 for those who want to fix the torn bushing, but don't want the stiff Apikol mount.

Or if you want stiff, but cheaper, fill the OEM mount with liquid urethane :)

I wonder if delrin would work? It's also pretty cheap and super easy to machine.

Moo-ed times 2....

Mine was cracked in 1 of the 4 and starting on a 2nd...
Wade's was nearly the same...

Mine was the same, cracked all the way through on one and most of the way on the 2nd. Probably a 50K mile part for the stock item. Once again it is probably a standard A6 part which isn't up to the task of the Torque motion of the RS6.

I do not have any technical charts of the car yet, so do not exactly know what is all connected to the diff.
I could really do with a nice garage /repair manual if there was one....

My question about replacing the mount with a (much) stiffer one, would that not give (torsion / vibration) problems to other parts of the rear diff or maybe the TC?

I know that in my previous life when I owned a volvo 850T5-R I once replace the engine mount bushing for a urethane bushing and afterwards I felt the reving of the engine in my steer.

Yes, you will generally feel more with stiffer bushings. It's not bad for the car, the soft bushings are for driver comfort. And I am just poking fun, but you misspelled the reason for editing your post. :hihi:

I also installed the new rear diff mount and was happily surprised that I didn't notice any tranfer of vibration to the car. Now the rear poly mount I installed in my tt is very noticeable. I give two thumbs up to the Apikol rear diff mount although it's not cheap and definitley over-engineered for a piece that won't see the light of day for most likely the rest of the cars life.
