We are a couple to have owned an RS4 V8 and now enjoying the RS5 since a couple of months.
The first impressions and perception is that the RS5 works much better than RS4 V8...
So i thought it was interesting to look after some figures which now looks to explain a little why that is not only a perception/feeling...
The numbers pretty previse are:
Official Audi numbers (DIN) (so not exact) RS5 / RS4 V8:
Weight: 1725 Kgs / 1650 Kgs
Power: 450 HP/ 420 HP
Torque: 430 NM/ 430 NM
Kgs/HP: 3.83/ 3.93 (so in theory 2.4% in favor for the RS5 which si really peanuts !!!)
Kg/Nm: 4.01 /3.84 (so in theory RS4 V8 is better then RS5 on that matter !!!)
Thsi measn that in theory again, we should not feel a difference (or big enough) when driving an RS5 vs. RS4V8
But we are not crazy we do feel a notable differnec so why is it ?
Here is why with the reality of the figures above:
Weight: 1825 Kgs / 1750 Kgs (averages)
Power: 450 CV/ 380 CV (averages for the RS4 V8 and my specific power estimation of my RS5 when 5 to 10000Km driven and knowing I had 438hp with only 1000Km driven)
Torque: 440 NM/ 400 NM (same comment as above)
Kgs/HP: 4.06/ 4.61 (so 11.9% favorable to the RS5 !!!)
Kg/Nm: 4.15 /4.38 (now it becomes favorable to the RS5 as well vs. theory)
With a 12% improvement in weight to power its more than logical to feel a difference.
I ma of course depserate to have driven 5 to 10000 Km to find out how much HP is measured, but i think 450 will be easily achieved and actuallt 440Nm will be surpassed as well. (already 435 at 1000Km)
