Ok, I bit bullet and bought wagners w/ shrouds...i am skipping aux rads(trusting yokust), and will mod my own fog delet grills. I plan on datalogging, with some help(no endorsements I swear.) But logging might be tuff, given weather is so cold. Any how I came across an interesting post on audizine, relating to RS 4 SMIC, wagner vs ER, etc...read thru, 034 motorsports ran some IAT #'s towards the end...thought it was interesting

What a cluster F@#$ of an article/thread!

There are 3 people dropping logs (pun intended) about I/C and IAT temp.
Upon further reading, it seems the vehicle in question is an S4 with RS6 turbos installed, which makes sense AFTER reading about an RS4 bumper installed (I was scratching my head thinking how in the hell do you install an RS4 bumper on an RS6???)

Then there are people sniping about flow rate/pressure testing, surface area, fooling sensors, etc...

I would rather look at crashed RS6's than read that again....

That's basically 'insert forum name here' <insert forum="" name="" here=""> for you when it comes to any type of comparative testing.

None of it is truly scientific. Asking which <insert aftermarket="" item="" here=""> is the best on a forum normally results in a volatile response or discussion.

I'd recommend anyone to just go with the reseller or source that will give you the best service and put the blinders on when it comes to the x vs. y discussion.

My $0.02.

An aside: I've always wanted to know why any of the B5/C5 2.7T Stage 3 and up folks that have tried stock RS6 I/Cs have had no success and went with stock RS4 instead (among other brands, too).

I'm thinking that the RS6 I/Cs were probably leaking most of the time as this is the trend.

Makes me wonder if sticking the RS4 I/C on the RS6 is worth a try.

Yes and Max did the right thing, IMHO...
1 graph is BS
multiple graphs in controlled conditions - correct.

SteveKen, I thought that 2.7 Stg 3 and up - peeps were suppose to go the K04 turbos route, not the RS6 turbos. Or even Tial 770, if ya can find them...

Technically. They are KO4 28 and 29's. Not the same as the KO4's in the RS4.

OK, good info. Has anyone made or found a "economical" source for a set of SS exhaust manifolds? 10 G's is a bit extreme for a set of inconels, IMHO

Wagners are in, I how ever did not install. The tech who did my TB service did, btw when I was questioning his honesty about coil packs, well he took pics of most procedure, belts, tensioner, water pump, coils, etc...that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. He and his 2 other techs are great guys. They said they had to do small trimming on shrouds. Honestly I drove home in heavy traffic, car drove great but hard to tell if any improvement. Btw cold start issue gone last 3 days.

Good deal! I had to do some trimming when when we installed the Wagner's in James' car as well. The bumper wouldn't even slide into place. Did they do anything to remedy the cold start issue, or has it just vanished on it's own?

I think so, I know Brian said that car my take a tank or 2 to adapt as well(although I did battery 1st time)- I think between cold, and me pulling the air box off 3x times(not pulling off correctly 1st time, ruined MAF connectors), which gave me MAF codes on top of misfires......last code set i got was too lean, too rich, cleared those and nada so far, good start ups.....Dave if I want to check boost pressure(maye loose a little with wagners), block 115, 2nd gear WOT, right?

oh well, driving home last night, CEL...vag...lean/rich intermittant bank 1/2....vagged 15,16,17(ty Jodh), nada...so I am left with boost leak, MAF,O2 sensors....which i will test tonight.........

Warm up the car, and turn off all accessories (climate control, radio, etc., ac fans cannot be running). Log block 002 at idle. MAF g/s should be 2-5 each at idle. Go to block 032, what are your long and short term fuel trims?

Oh, and one more thing. Don't go out and disconnect your battery every time you have a problem. When you do this it re-sets your fuel trims to zero, and it take hundreds of miles for the ecu to re-adapt them. You need this info to troubleshoot problems, and a disconnect only masks the issue.

Anyway, SAI and cold start go hand in hand, correct? Maybe there's something related.

I spoke with Brian at BND. He thinks it might be the aces. He said given the lubricity and that I am running a tune, I could be fouling the O2's. Now I am only getting rich/lean, and it all of the issues started after 1st aces treatment and boost gauge. Boost gauge, no leaks....no boost leaks, new coil packs, new proper tapped plugs, MAF ok? So usually rich lean is an O2 issue. I am going to run a tank on diluted , 50/50 so about 1.5 aces, as Brian suggested. He said he has had few customers with the problem.

I would agree that you're in need of new o2's. Your MAF readings at idle are right on. Your short term fuel trims are enriching the mixture, while your long terms are trying to lean it out. O2's are shot, or fouled.

So I plan on running tank down to 1/4, put 2 oz in and reset battery. Btw I put 4 oz in 1st time. 3.5 oz last tank, way too much, but Brian suggest 3.5 anyway. Hopefully sensors are just fouled.

It sounds like you've been going a bit heavy on that stuff. I fill my car when it hits 1/4 tank, and use about 2.5 oz. So 2.5oz. to about 17 gallons. At your mileage, I'd say you are about due for o2's anyhow. I know mine went at about 65k miles.

Yeah, you have to support the engine from the top with a transverse bar, and lower the engine/cradle/transmission assembly a few inches. This gives you access to everything in the rear of the motor. (o2's, downpipes, egt's, turbo's, etc). Check this thread out for reference: http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/21389-What-is-going-on-here?highlight=downpipes

I'm doing the same next month Speedtrapped, replacing the O2's & EGT sensors & gutting the downpipes finally. Then I'll get the new Revo flash & weather permitting, do some logs for everyone. I'm sure a tranny pully isn't too far away (I can only hope), not too soon though as I'm just getting my tt back together after a timing belt job with a new 3" downpipe install. A 3" downpipe install on a 225bhp tt has been dyno'd at 10bhp to the rear wheel & 15 ft/lbs of TQ.

hahnmgh63

They are very easy to install, although the factory downpipe has to be cut to be removed or else the whole engine cradle needs to be dropped to remove it. If you have to drop the engine/tranny cradle this will entail a front end alignment. I had my (optionally) ceramic coated. The quality of the bends and the welding is exceptional.
