Timing complete kit...
Tesioner
Tensioner pulley
Upper Right pulley
2 upper small idler
Belt (duh)
Water pump with gasket
Thermostat
Acc. Belt
Acc. Tensioner with pulley
Large plastic idler

My 2 cents

Replace fog light bulbs
Clean out condensor and rad
New power steer fluid
New rad fluid
Clean out lower intercooler hoses (oil accumulates from Pcv system) or slight oil blow by from turbos :(

After doing this with Pat, the rollers are more important than the belt itself IMO. The difference between the new and old rollers was obvious. Doesn't mean you don't change the belt though.

Not a problem if you use Aces IV. Blow-by mostly comes from the cylinders. Rings to be more specific.

Pat can tell his Aces story again.

Check the passenger side of your block to see if there are any coolant or oil leaks where the oil cooler attaches to the block. If so, replace the o-rings and the cheap plastic coolant pipe with an aluminum one engineered by the guy on the QW D2A8 forum.

http://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/msgs/21428.phtml

I confirmed last week that these pipes are the same for all the 4.2s in my garage(s). Just ordered three (3) of them

just had mine done a few weeks back!

if u leave it stock.. dun really need to change the intercooler hose.. but changing the dv while doing t-belt will give you more room to remove the hose clamp on the bottom of the oem dv.

i am still debating about fuel filter... its gonna be and ass to do it!

change ur spark plugs!

Not bad (for a dealer) if they change the rollers as well, as said before, rollers are just as important as the belt itself.

I would get a line item quote for everything they will replace.

If any of you guys are planning to do your own timing belts, you're more than welcome to borrow my tools, although I think I'm going to start charging a deposit to ensure that I get them back in a timely manner, or at all. It usually costs about $12 to ship them.

Are the rollers prone to break ...or is this a wear/tear issue? You suggested in the picture that the rollers must be changed at 35k? Has anyone done this regularly? This seems very unusual? Is this a common issue? Is this a "recall" issue?

marklar182
November 27th, 2010, 03:18
Pat, I will hit you up in 30K miles :)

I love how this crowd helps one another! I don't blame you for the deposit idea, gotta protect your investments.

This is supposed to be done during the service. Not unusual. You can tell the difference between and new roller and one with 35k on it. They're pretty cheap anyway.

The rollers are part of the timing belt service. 35k. Some dealers may not understand the need to replace all the components pictured. As you noted "this seems very unusual". Well, that sort of thinking will get you a Cosworth lump out back in the scrap heap.

The OP asked what needs to be done. We try to answer in the best way possible. We have been there and done that.

Not the correct kit. If you want to get all the parts, go to www.genuinevwaudiparts.com. Enter all the part numbers in and get them. You won't find cheaper.

If you want the right parts the first time, either go with genuine or fcp. If you want to wait to send back the wrong parts and wait to get the right ones, go with Ecs.
