I know its only a week old but i am already looking for rims for this. Summer application. What is everyone using and if you have a pic to post it would be great.

I am really leaning towards the MTM Titanium 10509

The MTM rims look fantastic, no question about it, but they are so heavy! For the money why not find something lightweight and benefit from your expense?

^^ what he said, the MTM rims do look fantastic but the price is a joke -- they are way too heavy and way too expensive, at that price point they should be lightweight and forged. You are paying for the name.

If you're going to blow that kind of cash I would get HRE P40s -- forged and much lighter, and I think they look tits. Or if you don't like mesh style, there are a ton of other options out there in that price range.

Oh yes. Now you're getting what you're paying for. That polished finish is a little blingy... wonder if they do a titanium finish?

I really looked hard at HRE's - had several sets on my old A8 W12 but it's just too hard to justify the $.... heck one rim/tire was more then my whole VMR setup with tires and mounting.shipping etc !

and Jacob at VMR was great to work with..... the 19x 9.5 et 33 fit on my car, with 034 control arms I don't need spacers any more to clear, without I ran 3mm all the way around. and i am running taller ( by .45inch ) 265/35/19's to get a decent sidewall..... they're 011's so certainly summer only in your area but there may be other options. I am very impressed with how quiet they 011's are given the tread and wear rating.

Vossen is local to me... I've seen alot of their stuff and they offered me a demo deal to shoot the W12 but I really never "felt" any of their designs.... and they have had some issues with returns....

short of that I think the Rs-Gt's / RGR's are perfect on the car.....I had a set on my previous RS6 in 20" but they were on the edge of comfort even with 275's

others I'd throw in the mix in the higher end: DPE ( their signature line), Rennen, Vorsteiner and perhaps Volk......

on the lower - Radarwerks, VMR, Achtuning, and Rotiform

I will at some point search for a ultra light replacement but I'm still down 8lbs with my setup over stock

Let us know what you end up going with !

cheers

cheers.

Speedtrapped should be able to add a word or two about 20" rims.
IMO, 20" could work but if there isn't enough rubber and the suspension is set stiff, it is too harsh...

surferdude
November 20th, 2010, 20:16
A few years ago, I went with 20 x 9.5 with 275/30 (in my current picture); it was a very harsh ride with my Eibach setup. The suspension geometry wasn't designed for that large of a wheel, so handling and component wear suffer as a result. Went through bushings (and tires)very quickly. After about a year (and a broken spleen), I went 18".

no i am looking at 19" 20's was taken out of my mind when i found everyone saying the same thing.

I drove an RS6 (speedtrapped's before he owned it) for 1.5 days and it had 20" BBS GT and KWV3 (set to stock?):
There were times where there were ripples in the road and we were turning; the sensation was like the suspension, in combination with the 20" and rubber bands for tires, wasn't even touching the road! More like skipping along the tops of the ripples, then the tires would catch and jar you back to the intended path/direction - meanwhile you would slide in the non-recaro seats...

The look is great.
The ride is not.

I think they would look pretty good on a blue car also. I would seriously consider going that rout but I can't seem to find that Euro C5 Rim in a 19x9.5, only a 19x9 which is to narrow for my 275's which is the minimum tire width I like to run.....

Rims are somewhat personal subjective opinion. Just try to keep in the known proper fitment of the backspace.

8.5 width should be 30 (Stock RS6 rim)
9 should be ~29 (Stock RS4 rim)
9.5 should be ~33et (Known VMR 9.5 fitment with no shims and 275/30/19s)

DHall1
January 14th, 2011, 15:17
I almost got em last year.

8.5s have too much backspace and you would need to run spacers.

9.5s have perfect fitment but the best tire choice would be 275/30/19s and there is just not enough sidewall for my setup at stock DRC. Too much wheel gap

The 9.5s are best for you with the coilovers but will the 275s give you enough sidewall for comfort?

It depends on the tire and are they the 35mm backspace?

255/35/19s for tires? If so, which tires? Are they the proper XL rated tire?

Its not that great a deal. The rims are like 900 and ?? for the tires that are on them.

Will they fit? Yes

Is it the proper backspace? No

You will need spacers to reach proper fitment on the 8.5/35mm. IMHO a perfect fit? No way.

Which is why I detailed my answer on the 8.5/35mm

The 9.5/33mm is a known fitment on the RS6 and I almost went with them but again with the 275/30s(also a known fitment) I felt the fender gap would be too much on a stock DRC ride height. This was very subjective and while the overall tire diameter was not much less the visual aspect ratio of tire sidewall to fender gap opening was off in my mind. It made the fender gap look huge.

Do the 9.5/33 rims fit the RS6 perfectly? I would say yes with the right tire but the visual turned me off with stock DRC ride height. Dropped or with coilovers? It would look awesome.

THE 710's come with a 9.5 rim and the backspacing is 33

There's a shop semi-local to me -- J&J Powerdercoating in Zion, IL.

Father & son business, sprint car racers, do lots of harley stuff. Not fancy by any means, but a smoking deal, $80 to strip and coat per wheel (Some other knob quoted me $250 each to strip and paint them!)

I would call around to your local shops and get quotes. Prices vary widely.

Oh, yes. Here's to hoping to things going right. But the deal should be sealed over beers at the Billy Goat or Millennium Bar. Your choice.

Yes, for 80 they sanded out the nasty rash the original owner had applied to all four. They look new. They did say sandblasting the audi primer didn't work that well, it's really stubborn, they had to hand-strip them in the end or risk pitting the hell out them -- took a lot more time than they estimated for, but they aren't the kind of people to ask for more money than they said they would.

Yeah, the primer Audi uses on their wheels is like cheese, its very thick and soft. It's great for filling imperfections (the aluminum used for most of their wheels is pretty porous), but it's terrible to work with.

Isn't that the air valve?

Most likely. It doesn't have the Allen indent for tightening anyway. Must be the cap.

I installed 20" RS5 rims for this summer. Looks fine and is actually pretty comfortable to drive. Much better than the Sportec Mono 20" that I had.
But this may also be caused by the different tires.

I just finished reassembling my DPE's this weekend. Hard to tell from the lighting in the picture, but I had the centers powder coated Avus silver (close as I could get) and replaced the chrome lips with polished aluminum.

I am running 19" OZ Superleggera IIIs 11283... They are off getting the centers powder-coated to match the car - Dolphin Gray with the polished lip. I should have them done and mounted on new rubber in a couple weeks.

I've had the Rotiform Mia's for a while now. Really love them. I think I'm going Dark though. I like the way Brav's looked in his thread. I photoshoped a color change of mine on the car. Looks good, I think. Now If I could only figure out what color that actually Is. Looks like a Titan (Dark) Grey. I don't know, but I like It.....................

Hey, did you want to go to the michelin thing at PBIR next month? I checked and they do carry your size in the new SS's.

Not gonna be able to make It. Got quite a busy schedule for the next couple of months. So you don't think the color match's. Hmm, I kind of like it myself. Never thought I would like a dark wheel but It give's It that racer look, and that's what I like about It. Most of the newer high performance cars today seem to come with a dark colored wheel whether It be black or a dark grey color. Seems to be the Trend. And by the way Its a good Photoshop job because those are the actual wheels on the car, I merely changed the color............

LOL, well it looks great! I wasnt saying its a bad thing, it just looks like the rims are a little darker than daytona, almost a onyx... Sorry you cant make it out, they are gonna have a bunch of high performance cars fitted with the new SS's. Well even if you cant attend, we should still meet up for a beer while we are in town. and i gotta hear that exhaust WOT!

I purposely didnt go for gunmetal on the Rotis, I wanted them black or silver, and went for textured black. Trying to color match wheels is so.... ghetto :)

Nice PS job btw! although as our cars are the same color, why did you do it? These look a little less black and more charcoal. This is probably the best one for color accuracy.

Yea Brav, I just wanted to see how they would look on my car with a darker color. I merely selected the wheel and reduced the Brightness and Contrast and that's what resulted. Not exactly sure what color that is, but I like it. And when I do go to have the wheel painted, I will try to have them match that color................

I like it personally. I think dark wheels look great on the Daytona RS's. Not so much on other colors.

I like the black.... on the color match I must have been rollin ghetto in my RS (and now Papadoc)...me and every Daytona RS6+ from the factory with the titanium wheels that really do match the Daytona. Rolling really ghetto on my TT now as its got the same thing going with Nimbus Gray with Gray wheels. Looks good to me and no washing every ten minutes as with original silver wheels. I'm not a fan of black on black though. Still no pictures yet but if i ever get my S5 back from Stasis tuning I will make a new family photo.
