Is it possible that Audi are working on a model that will sit above the A8 as a true grand tourer?
This might seem unlikely but there more to this that pie in the sky, firstly Bentley are looking to develop a 5dr model (hatchback) and the success of the Panamera has shown that the luxury market will accept an expensive hatchback if the brand is right. So if Bentley do indeed develop this model then surely VAG will take advantage of the R&D cost involved to develop additional models for this one platform, no other manufacturer comes close to matching VAG when it comes to capitolising on a platform. The VAG new chairman has already stated that the Panamera was not to be replaced but might change if this Bentley idea gets the green light.
Where does the A9 come into this thinking? Simple, Audi's sales numbers make such a project viable, not only that but it will allow the other two brands to price their own versions more competitively.
But will it stop with just these three models, what about Lamborghini and even a replacement for the Phaeton?
