View Full Version : 10th anniversary rs6 meet

Just putting this idea out there. It's pretty early, but I was thinking it would be pretty badass to have as many rs 6's in one location around summer 2013. I'm sure some of us will move onto bigger and better things, but come anyway. Just sayin...

Nürburgring? :D

PS I might be coming to the US for a month or so, probably South/North Carolina + road trip depending on where we can rent a beach house for a week or two.
This will most probably in June/July 2011.

I'd be down to meet up. I will still be in va, not far from where you'll be. I'm sure some of the other peeps on the east coast would love to meet up, maybe even west coast! I mean you are the owner...

I guess I should elaborate. A 10 year anniversary of when the beast was offered here. This thing could be really big. It will definitely be the biggest RS 6 meet in the US if we even get a 5th or the remaining cars. I'm hoping for more. And of course all the members over the pond would be welcome!

Erik

The dates for this event will be released in December. Could be something for some to consider.
Some people might get a rental car, some could bring their own and either join the event itself (will fill quickly)
or just "be". Another option would be to just join in for the normal tourist driving.

For 2011, there's just ONE small (big) problem. I "joined" this forum in 2002, so I think 2011 is a bit early for 10 years celebration :D
(edit - sorry just read your post above)

We just need a nuclear aircraft carrier to load up the '6's and have them IN the hanger bays (less salt water spray) and then park/moor at Wilhelmshaven or Bremerhaven and caravan down to the 'RING for 3 days and then back!

Can you work on that for us???

There are 4 or 5 RS6s here in CT I'm sure I can convince to go if within a days drive....

There's always S-fest here in CT at the end of August every year too.

JSRS6

My vision is to have nationwide participation, and the best way to guarantee that objectiive is to locate this uber-meet at least semi-centrally in the USA. Maybe somewhere we can do some driving? Any ideas anyone?

I think timing is more of an issue and then location.

Wouldn't want to be on the East Coast during Hurricane season.
Wouldn't want to be in tornado alley whenever that season is.... imagine if 30+ RS6's get sucked up and away?!?!??!

I hear Barrett Jackson in Phoenix is good in January (hint hint, wink wink) :)
Anyone know of good roads around there???

Edit:
Timing as in Seasonal timing. Not gonna go to Chi-town in December - did that already... Thanks to John Paul Jones...

Perhaps, anywhere around midway between Houston and Chicago that would be good?

I was almost thinking of Vegas if we could get a group rate at one of the hotels. There is a nice track close by, I think Springhill? The place should be by a track that we can rent or get lap time.

But of course. What would the largest rs6 meet be without track time?

I'm in if a track (maybe a golf round or two) is involved- and if I'm still breathing and haven't turned my car into recyclable material...;0

Is Springhill aka Pahrump?

Do we limit it to RS6s only?
R8s?
RS4s?
etc?

Talk about L8apex. Spring mtn is a killer

I bring my own lodging. Its 40ft and has a Ralph Lauren interior. Make the meet where we have the most fun and members able to visit.

How did you like the course? I contacted the owner to see what we would need to do to do like a Saturday day road course events, and then probably a Saturday evening drag strip. And probably Sunday road course and farewells in the afternoon. Granted, this is almost 2 years away. But I want to see if the Kansas city chapter or even acna would help and publicize it more. I'm sure there are some rs6 owners out there that aren't on here that would like to participate. And if it's acna sanctioned, even better ;-)

MaxRS6

You might check with the kansas city or st louis group as they put on an annual event there. John aka jp4 would be a great guy to get involved. Also Jim aka amulet-s6 would be a great resource of info as he and john know how to rip around HPT

Vegas Baby!!!

I personally wouldn't mind going to Vegas, but I want the location as centered as possible so everyone has a fair shake at getting there. Here are the distances from some of the major areas, if anyone is interested:

San diego-1620
Seattle-1815
New York-1255
Norfolk-1222
Chicago-573
Dallas-500
Jacksonville-1180

Of course this is just the first place I came up with that is Midwest. Eventually, I will have some votes on here for potential locations.

Your trip is 18 hours 25 minutes / 1137.07 miles...... from dc.

but if were going to do this. i say we start by getting the east/west to each have one this summer to start getting people motivated. We really need to start with a show that each side has that they go too.. one on the east, and one on the west. then 10 years, once people are excited we all show from a Thurs-Friday to Sunday show. u know a nice weekend. because I'm not driving that far (see beginning) to show up sat and leave Monday.

east-coasters wanna start meeting up at waterfest/h20? wat you guys think? ideas?

hahnmgh63

Actually just under 1200 miles from Seattle to Vegas, must have transposed the 8 in the group for something like 1185 or so.

Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin seems like a logical choice since most of the RS6's were sold in Minneapolis & Chicago. That track is second to none. The Resorts & Bed & Breakfast accommodations are great. Cruising through the Kettle Moraine is an experience of its own.

1620 miles from St. Paul. Hmmm, if my car hasn't burned up in a fiery self destructive implosion by then, I'd be in. Ever the over thinker though, what time of year do you have in mind? Us folks up north would have to be driving cross country on snow tires if this happens in the winter. I'd rather be on my blingy wheels. :)

I think this sounds like fun but that may be due to the newness of the car still. I just drove the car back from CO and I am still game for more road trip.

Vegas is fun and that are other benefits such as cheap hotels and other things to do other than talk about RS6s. The downside of course is the distance.

@V8Weight Hold out our your implosion as long as you can :) I am still hoping for a recall.

Excellent idea and YES, I'm in! Um, where are we holding it again? ( LOL )

With that said, a few point and suggestions:

Dallas Texas, centrally located in the United States
Good weather, maybe early March or late October for "best" Rs6 weather
Gaylord Texan for lodging: http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-texan/
Motorsports Ranch: http://www.motorsportranch.com/
Texas Motorplex 1/4m track: http://www.texasmotorplex.com/wp-content/cache/supercache/www.texasmotorplex.com/index.html
Texas Mile for standing mile event, though way South of DFW: www.texasmile.com
Autoscope Park Cities for Tech Session or Q&A, maybe even Dyno Time: www.autoscope.net ( Side By Side Dyno's w. Drag Racing SIM )
I have several 2 hour driving routes that we could take for a spirited drive , with excellent local "hole in the wall" food stops!

Not to mention that I am sure I could secure sponsorships to help with the event, from ACNA, Autoscope, etc...

I know this is a long time away, so I will monitor this thread, I will help where I can!

That sounds great Steve. I know it's a long way off, but I am really looking forward to it. Any help would be appreciated, and it would definitely help get the word out to any rs6 owners who aren't on any forums.

I would like to see it timed with another event such as the A.L.M.S. race at Road Atlanta held in October. Next year could be a "rehearsal" for the 10th anniversary. I would drive across the Country if a Lemans series race was scheduled the same week (those endurance Audi's are spectacular). Probably 6 hrs travel tops for me just for the RS6 event.

Texas Mile is in Goliad Texas, 5 Hours SOUTH of DFW and in the middle of NO where... not much else except the event itself. I've been there since the beginning, didnt make it last weekend, didnt have anything more to offer.

As for the Lotus, well, errr... It will get to mid-130's pretty quickly.. I wouldn't want to go much faster than that in it... not an overly " stable " car at speed vs Rs6.

I think it would be interesting to put it with an ALMS race assuming Audi does them more extensively by 2013 (next year is only Sebring and Road Atlanta) and maybe get Audi themselves a little interested in it. The pic would be Audi Race cars parked in front of a long line of RS6s. Another event might be historic races somewhere...Road America in Wisc has the Brian Redman event every year that is fun having just gone this year...a pic could be made with retired Le Mans winning R8s that private owners now run in the historics if they could be made to be interested. For the races they do an open parade laps each day anyway on Road America and i'm sure they could be talked into letting a great number of RSs do it in one block. Also they do in the evening a car show in the town. Would be cool to have a ton of RS for that too. I'm in front of this guy doing the parade laps in the video linked...we got to break away full bore a few times.

It was surprising fun with way more laps than i expected. Since i keep missing DE events there i just wanted to go around it to see it but we were on it pretty good and did a few passes as me and the CTS-V were running over some people just not moving at all. Main thing it was fun to have my wife with me so she could get a little bit of a sense what kind of fun it is to be on the track. And for once understand exactly how well an RS6 stops so she stops picking on me in regular traffic.

Alright, I am resurrecting this thread to stay on topic. I got an email response? from Randy Pobst, or more likely one of his minions. What do y'all think?

Sounds terrific, Josh! *I do have a very busy schedule this summer. *Check World Challenge, IMSA Challenge GT3 Cup, and Ferrari Challenge. *I am committed to all three. *I normally receive a fee and travel expenses for appearances, is that a possibility? *Will you have our RS6 race cars there?

All the best,

Randy

Obviously, we won't have the champion rs6's, unless someone is holding out on us(Dave?...j/k). I am still working on sponsorship from ACNA and maybe audiworld, or audizine. Of course I'll also try raven, hoppen, wicked, and eurocharged. If we make this a full fledged VAG event, it could be really big and sponsorship wouldn't be a problem. Not sure what the consensus is as far as exclusivity...

As before, I'm in. Our Texas State Meet turned out really well, only had 3 Rs6's show, 6 R8's ( v8, v10, and a pair of spyders ) a few Rs4's and 3 UrQ's ! ( 1 ralley car, 2 street cars )

1. If you limit it to Rs6's you most likely will not get the number needed to make it worth while for Sponsorships
2. If you limit it to RS models you have more of a chance to get 100 cars to show
3. If you open it to ALL Audi's, with special attention to the Rs6 ... 200 cars to show up, maybe?

I'd suggest:

1. Narrow down the location 1st. Maybe offer 3 options and do a vote here ( California, Texas, Virginia )
2. Base above location around track event(s): Road Course , 1/4 strip, top speed runs ( Example: Texas , Motorsports Ranch , Texas World Speedway, Texas Mile )
3. Food - Make sure to select at least 1 local food stop... something that's special to the area ( Example: Texas = BBQ )
4. Put a BoD together to spearhead the event and deligate portions of the event , it'd be too much for 1 person to organize ( 1. Driving Event 2. Food 3. Sponsorship 4. Entertainment / Speakers 5. Gifts .. etc )

Just a bunch of un-requested opinions....

I'd be happy to help and yes I can offer some Sponsorship money to get the ball rolling!

Steve

THIS is exactly the route to go!!!
Way to go Steve for stepping up!!!

To be fair for all US RS6, RS4, R8, S6, S4 etc.... I think it would only be fair for the meet to be in the middle of the country.
Yeah, it would nice to have it in California but then that isolates the East Coast peeps and vice versa.

Also, is anyone on the board of ACNA?
This would really get the word out to all that aren't on this forum or any forum.

Pat, just bring a floor jack and jack stands :)

THank you Steve. Ill get with you offline this week. I think i am going to do my original location. Heartland Park Topeka. It is the most centrally located, has a 1/4 mile drag strip, and a 2.5 mile road course. I emailed Randy back with some amplifying info. I am going to advertise the meet as all VAG cars, but with emphasis on RS6/RS cars in general. And the flyer will have the 10th Anniversary RS6 prominently displayed. More info will be posted as i get it. Keep you eyes peeled, peeps...

Randy loves this stuff. He comes to our Chicago Audi DE events and takes people out in their cars. Really nice down to earth guy. Still have not had a chance to ride with him or more fun in my RS6 with him driving. Kansas. Not sure if i will still have my RS but if so sounds good to me.

1. Kansas works for me ( and most of the DFW guys for sure )
2. ACNA, I'm not on the BoD, but I am the Texas PoC... ( Lone Star Chapter ) so I will open that door as needed.
3. Maybe we should put a bid in to align this event with the National ACNA event , that would help us get more backing ( read: Funding ) from ACNA, Audi Dealerships, additonal sponsors, etc?

Just a few thoughts

Ditto that Ben.

I'd prefer limiting it to solo RS 4/6 and R8s (RS 3 and RS 5s if they make it Stateside in time) but agree that opening it up to all S models will greatly enhance the turnout. I'd be down for some sponsorship money.

Best,

My guess is that IS Randy that replied to you. He has always been excellent with his fan base.

Best,

Ben

You are correct sir. I have been in contact with Randy, and i emailed Michael today as well. They are both very interested. Randy also said that their crew chief, Mr. Milone might also be interested.

Nürburgring? :D

PS I might be coming to the US for a month or so, probably South/North Carolina + road trip depending on where we can rent a beach house for a week or two.
This will most probably in June/July 2011.

Hey Erik, just a heads up since you said you would be in the states. We are having another dyno day June 18th just outside of dc. It would be awesome if you could make it.
