Just got an email from passport, this new passport iQ looks pretty cool. If you are looking for a radar/laser detector AND a gps portable Nav unit, take a look at this:

Looks neat, thing to do would be to put Garmin or TomTom logos on it so the gendarmes think it's just a gps unit

I'm sure that would be easy :-)

can you advise if this detector has stealth character- that is cannot be detected by officers of the law radar detector detectors?

Sorry mate, unfortunately no. I just called them for ya and it is not undetectable. If you are looking for undetectable, look for the 9500 ix or 9500 ci. I highly recommend the ci.

looks just like a GPS unit...

I didn't read if it had external sensors or does it have to be on the dash?

The sensors are in the unit, so it would be best mounted just like a gps unit on the window, but probably more centered towards the rearview mirror.

i like the external sensors at or near the license plates.
there was a thread about this with Spidercat (Hawaii) along with videos on the effectiveness of several models....

That's what my setup is with mine. Works great.

many thanks for the info JSRS6. I will look at the escort 9500 CI, but need a stealth that has GPS so detector can masquerade as a GPS unit, otherwise beaucoup fine over here!

Get the 9500 ci, and get a Rns-e. I think once you see the kit, you will understand. It is a modular kit that is custom installed. Take a look at my previous posts for pics of my install.

When I had my Porsche I had the k40 installed at stealership with front back laser diffuser. For stealth, the set up was great. There was nothing but led light on tach and speedo, front back. Controlled with little remote control. Cost me 2400 installed. Never a tix. This time around I spent 300 on an escort mounted it up on windshield. Had my local stereo shop add front and back laser diffuser-300.00. All in 600.00, never a tix. I know Virginia it jas to be hidden.

Care to elaborate? Or did I read too much into your comment? Can't hear sarcasm on here.

I would buy this, but the only problem I see with it, basically radar detectors have to be mounted center of windshield forward(right?), using the gps or touchscreen in general would require the driver to stop pullover....unless it can be mounted differently

When I said centered, I meant more centered than most gps units I see mounted in the far left upper corner. . It could be mounted high on the windshield just to the left of the rear view, within easy reach. That's where I sometimes mount my iPhone in it's suction mount. Not out of reach at all.

Just it must be mounted in plain sight so the front and rear laser detectors can function and so you can see and use the display. So it's a broken window invitation!!

Too bad they don't make one with remote sensors so you can install it sorta hidden from drive by/walk by view.

You have to look hard to see my V1.

From what I gather, you get the smartwire, same as the hardwire kit for the v1. You route the wire right by the rear view and mount the suction cup clip mount there. And unclip it and put it in the glove box when parked.

That was pretty funny though..."break in period"
