It's a shame they chose black because it's hard to really notice what is different apart from the front bumper. Also your link mentions over 400hp, how much over 400hp will it actual be?

Nice car but I think it suits the less aggressive styling of the SE trim.

Now you have it in white as well! (check the same link!)...

And according to very credible audiblog.nl, it's the V8 4.0 TFSI with 408PS!

I thought the lighter shades would help it's appearance but alas it doesn't. Why did they give it that sad old saggy ass. :vhmmm: At least the engine sounds like it's something worth waiting for, if true it's got the same output as the 550i but i wonder which one has the most torque and the better emissions?

Interesting that there are spy photographs of the S7 instead of the S8, considering Qisha's recent comment on what would debut at Paris. One possible explanation is that the S8 and S7 will both be released at Paris.

Zyklon5
September 21st, 2010, 21:27
Or maybe the S8 is done with testing, ready to be launched in Paris and S7 is still testing.

ChicagoAudi
September 21st, 2010, 21:35
Possible; however, why would the S7 be photographed with virtually no camouflage and near production ready? Automakers usually do not finish development and warehouse the vehicle for future release months and months in advance.

I didn't think of that, if true would this mean that S models are coming earlier than before or is it roughly around this time in the lifecycle that they usually appear?

Good call! Wanted to say the same...
I doubt we will see the S8 before the S7 since A8 already has the V8 variant, for which the A7 desperately moans to get!
We shall see very soon I guess, but it's been very frustrating... I don't know what is all that fuss around that V8 tt and subsequently the S7! It's just the top range option of a regular series model! if it was RS or some special concept/supercar - OK... Just - PRESENT THE DAMN THING!!!

Quite right, it's not as if it's going to steal sales for any other Audi currently on sale because there's just no equivelants in the range. Anyhow Audi need to present their S versions the instance the regular car is released or there abouts and bring us the RS variant within the first 3 years instead of just before it making it's curtain call.

i'm most interested in the V8, regardless of the car they show. this V8 is the harbinger of most S and RS cars for the next 10 years at audi. it is going to replace the old 4.2 that has been around over 10 years in one form or another. the current V8 has produced from 300 to 450 hp in one form or another. the new V8 is expected to produce from 400 to ~600 hp in potential.

None of them has foglights as it's not an option on A7! What seems like a foglamp is actually a sensor for advanced cruise control, same as on new A8! All the lights in both options (LED/xenons) are all weather!

That's the power figure they actually published first, back in 2008., but now they've got another one.... Audi, seems like, are updating their numbers according to latest offerings from competition! Which is not a big deal with FI engines...

LittleDevil
September 25th, 2010, 20:53
That is correct.

Document was from 1.5.2008 and If you look RS5, A8, A7, R8 V10, R8 Spyder, Q5, S4, A1.....etc all info is correct and I'm pretty sure that S7 will get that engive with that power.

It is also Q3 listed there.

Do you have link file of their new plan? :)

I have just send the link in the post #36...
But if you look more carefully, initial hp rate for the A1 1.4TFSI was 170, but we just learned few days ago that it had jumped to 185ps!! So, it is not 100% and it's got updated, presumably by Audi themselves...

Joker
January 29th, 2011, 18:37
408hp :vhmmm:, less than before and also the gap between S and it's rival would disappear as well. Audi might have saved weight but not enough to warrant such a decrease in my opinion, I was expecting 440hp but I suppose when you consider that the 333hp of the S4 is actually closer to 360hp a 408hp might also be a genuine 440hp anyway. :hihi:

Toto89
January 30th, 2011, 13:22
Very logical move. Note that it's main competitor should be the 550i. If the same figures will be true as on the S4 engine, 500++hp is easily achievable, so it will be Merc's new V8 territory, but much more economical i hope. If it will get the same 8 speed gearbox as the A8, it would be perfect! Though i think S8 needs more, something like new RS6, as there is no RS car in 8's range.

darkop
January 30th, 2011, 17:49
New S8 for sure will make more, but nothing close to last RS6 though... Something in 500+ range! Might get exactly the same as W12 (500ps) as D3 S8 had exactly the same as its w12 brother (or ''sister'' if you from NA/Canada more like ;))!

Hm, I don't know, the A7 just doesn't grow on me.
A5 Sportback , old and new Merc CLS :heart: and even the Panamera are better looking cars, imo.

From the side it looks superb, back is ok, but the front is just so uninspired.
Like the designer did it in a bored moot within 5 minutes.

On the other hand, the front of new A6 looks way better!
Anyone sharing my opinion?

Also: Could someone p'shop a new A6 front to a A7 (with front/side angle) to see what it looks like?
...

Yeah, the Sportback concept looked better with those headlights and even rear lights were better proportioned as they were slimmer. Having said that, I can't say A7 doesn't look awesome, just as not much as the original concept. They probably thought ''let's take those headlights for the A6 since A7 already looked funky enough with its shape''...
Also, looks way better than either CLS or Panamera even more! That s-line trim is just bad-ass!

I have to agree. Such a classy car, but still sporty and elegant.

Saw one in Denmark the other day, black with S-Line etc. Parked next to a F430, 360 Modena and a Mazerati Quattroporte. And the A7 was the one who caught my eye, not only because I'm an Audi fan. But the fact that it stood out from the others. Can't wait for the S and RS versions.

The thing that make Audis stand out from such exotics is the fact their are not only sporty but combine it with an elegance thats few can carry off so well. I hope that the production version of the RS6/7 come complete with the squared off arches but either way I am sure these two will look superior to any of their rivals.

The question you need to be asking is will Audi think either the C63 or F30 M3 will hurt the sales of the RS4/5 if it retains the 4.2FSI engine?

If that answer is YES then I wouldn't rule out the switch of engine, but you also need to remember that both these cars are limited production runs, even compared to the likes of the M3 and chances are they will still be able to sell every single one of them.

I like everything about them apart from their weight, S6 at 1895kg isn't that much lighter than BMW quote for their 550i, in fact if you add the 75kg that BMW include in their figures then the Audi is actually heavier. Seems like we have been here before with the RS6 and the old M5.

Lets just hope that the actual output figure is greater than the official one.

The A6, A7, and A8 are still relatively new from launch. In the case of the A7 I could see how lacking a V8 put it somewhat behind its one direct competitor, the CLS. The A8 V8 is about as quick as its closest competition and I don't see a lack of a V8 a big problem in the A6 as I see few E550 or 550i compared to the 6 cylinder offerings. Audi takes its time with the engines but the result is quite good, the 3.0T is a good example so I think that the 4.0T will do quite well as well. I suppose Audi also took some time to give the 4.0T cylinder deactivation which is a first on a turbocharged engine as far as I know.
