Nice first post! I have been very satisfied with my APR tune. I would consider the Hotchkis sway bars if you don't already have them. They really help the car through the curves. Keep us posted with your progress and welcome aboard the

Welcome aboard the crazy train. Please accept my sincere apology in advance for any off topic thread jack or political tone taken in any future posts you make.

As for downpipes. Many on the forum have gutted the stock primary cat. An option.

I haven't tried them nor do I think anyone on the list is using them but I have heard that Labree Motorsports downpipes are of great quality. The have a good reputation with other Audi models and for Hotrodders.

I've got a set of Labrees on order - 2 weeks out I'm told. USP is going to install them along with a custom system with X-pipe etc.... I'll post long overdue pics of the car and those mods once I get her back next week. They're doing the KW/hsports/034 arms and Wagners/Venairs this week along with DV's, vaccum hoses, brakes lines , clear corners and misc maint.... including a full swap to BND stuff. I wish I could do more myslef but it's just too damn hot here without an AC'ed garage to work in !! I hear the Wagners were a real bitch to fit.......

My black Optic conversion is complete now - had my local 3m Autoshield guy do the window trim and trunk, headlight trim - and I sprayed the front grille surrounds, and swapped on black Audi emblems. I'll post pics of that all new week....

I've still got my OEM 18's for sale, and will also have the stock IC's .....

Worse - the fallout of a divorce ! She hated my last RS6 (Daveykid's old car) - said it was too loud and fast and racecar-like...... should've been a sign..... can't possibly be any of those..... but with this one I plan to push the edge... time and lack of a decent garage limit how much I can do, but I'm justifying the extra costs for USP doing stuff as a net saving vs./ the carrying cost on the big house she now has.....plus I got rid of my boat... so less toys but more focus on the ones I have.

And thanks to you all and the amazing info you share- it's easier to figure out many of the options to make her faster and more enjoyable ( even if I don't get them ALL right the first cut !)

In fact my "spare" shifter plate surround jsut arrived from the scrapyard today - a great solution put out there by a forum member that solved a problem I was thinking about all the way from Chicago as I drove her home ! I hated the shine in an otherwise two-tone interior. I may pioneer satin black mirror caps for everyone to judge....found a cheap set to swap out as a test...

A long time ago before we moved up into the mountains of central Colorado. My wife and I took a 2 week vacation from Iowa to Colorado. What did we drive? My 500+hp 87 Supra turbo. Modified suspension, wheels, brakes, engine, turbo, fuel system and clutch to take the hp. While not bone crunching stiff and not too loud....500hp is 500hp and 24psi from a Garrett To4 makes things flat out go. We covered all the central rockies of Co, thru Aspen and Independence Pass, Trail Ridge rd and many others. Did I drive fast? Does a chicken have lips? Never a peep from her excpet maybe alittle wimper over Indepence Pass because the road narrows to 1 lane and the lack of a gardrail left her looking down 2000 ft. We have even taken the RS6 on a long trip packed with the dog and plenty of luggage. I cant go nuts with the car but she likes the open road with the idjuts out of the way. Her daily driver is a E55. Go figure.

I would say your experience was a sign. The RS6 is the most reserved supercar to drive every day. I cant wait for the pics.

Just FYI, the Stearns are only for the upper two control arms and have stock inner bushings and the Stearns tie rod on the outer end which is Turnbuckly type adjustable. The 034 motorsports Spherical bushings are for the lower two control arms, 3 for the front arms and two for the rear. 034 also sells what they call their Density line kit which is just harder rubber bushings for all of the arms. I replaced the lower Sphericals with Meyle arms as the bushings appear to be heavier duty than the Febi/Bilstein arms but are still rubber flex bushings. I'm not sure what the 034 Density line look like compared with the Meyle or Febi arms, or how the rubber hardness (Durometer) compares. Let us know what you end up with and what your thoughts are, as I mentioned, my 034's didn't seem to start making noise for a few hundred miles, maybe the come coated with something that wears off? I tried spraying them with some Moly dry lube and it only quieted them for a very short time.

I've had the Stratmosphere downpipes for two years. Didn't have an opportunity to dyno before and after, but it sure feels more powerful.... for what that's worth. I do debate the performance improvement level vs. the cost. Wish I still had that $2k in my pocket (purchase and installation.) The chip upgrade is by far the best bang for the buck... although a lot of bucks; I Don't regret that purchase!

What's the next turbo upgrade for our cars? Total turbo swap or just waste gates?

The Wagner intercoolers are on order.

PS: I've got it on "good authority" the S7 will be a turbo v8 with hp levels comparable to ours.

I got my APR ECU/TCU upgrade about a month ago and am very happy. One thing I found I needed right away (along with sway bars as suggested by MaxRS6) is better brakes. Prior to the upgrade I was running the OEM rotors with EBC Red Stuff pads. Great braking power, but at track temps the rotors wear quickly. With the APR upgrade, something like Brembos are in order.

Tip ntrcptr- It seems as if you are manually typing in what others have posted earlier. If you would like to "quote" a previous post, select the "reply with quote" command button located at the previous post, and it will automatically post the other person's post into your new message. You can edit how much of their previous post you would like in your new post. It is a much easier way and includes the original poster name in the quote that is also helpful. I hope this is helpful to you.

No, not claiming your search will be in vain, just not understanding your post. Ben dropped the frozen rotor link.

Another option is the phaeton duct mod, well-documented here:

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel60.shtml

There are other BBKs out there that might cool a little better, but I'm guessing probably not worth the cash...

The big bucks option is to fit the OEM ceramic rotor setup from the C6 RS 6, I believe a guy over on www.rs246.com has done it.

I bought the ECS tuning kit when I did my 75k mile service. All of the parts are OEM, meaning that they are manufactured by the companies that make them for Audi. The problem with ECS though is getting them to box up and ship the correct parts. I ended up 1800 miles from home with the wrong thermostat. Other than that, I don't doubt the integrity of the parts themselves one bit.

All things considered though, I didn't really save that much money. Go to the service schedule sticky thread, get the part numbers for the timing belt service, and paste them over to www.genuinevwaudi.com. There, you can buy all Audi parts for about the same price as the ECS kit.

I almost bought that car before it went to auction. For a 70k mile car it was in fantastic condition. The paint condition is 10 of 10 and the car was well maintained by the prev owner. Not many people keep the paint in that condition...

Uhhhhh, it even has a piece of my car on it. The front rotors are from my 30k mile car. :-)

I got the Phaeton brake ducts and the RNSE nav unit. Funny, I drove that car and it has parts from my car on it.

Autohaus didnt do the timing belt service? IMHO your good to 75k or even 80 and your fine. Plan on replacing the waterpump while your there and use the Audi reman wp.

Enjoy the car.

F1 dad,

Do the phaeton brake duct upgrade and your rotors will run much cooler on the track. Took measurements with a pyrometer with and without. Ran approx 400 degrees cooler with Phaeton ducts at a mid-Aug track event.

JP4, and a few other including myself had some custom rotors and hats done as a group. I may have a picture of the difference between OEM and our track set-up. I still run the OEM for the street. I'll try and find the photo's that show the much improved rotor air channeling. We ran the stock caliper with track pads (Pagid blacks for me)

Grizz also has a kit (custom caliper mount) that can reposition your current calipers at allow a larger diameter rotor from the C6- rs6. I think that rotor is 390mm vs our 365mm. He's got one for the rear also that allows the use of your current front rotor on the rear of your car...

I'd suggest the phaeton duck first. I may have a second set if you're interested. Keep Smiling, Jim

Good point.

I'm sure 6 of us would be willing to give this a go. I really like the design of the stock rotor and the Phaeton duct helps a great deal but this could add even more life.

As a side note. If you live in an area or drive the car in good weather only....you could just remove the stock backing plate for added cooling. .02c

Phaeton duct is best but you can scrap the stock backing plate for next best.

The backing plate is a heat shield protecting the control arm ball joints on the bottom.

Oh $hit, dont do that then.

What about cutting a vent hole in the stock backing plate?

you COULD but then you have to deal with the mounting location for the Phaeton duct.
Or are you suggesting just a whole in the backing plate?

Yes,

While not as good as the Phaeton(which I have) it would help. As Tozo noted just make the hole higher and away from the ball joint. The backing plate is thin pot metal and easy to cut. You could even leave a small lip to act as a RS600 type of duct on the backing plate to help air flow.

Again, the best bet is the Phaeton ducts. Its just been some time since I had it all apart and completely forgot about the close location of the ball joint boot.

or just cut a "U" shape in the backing plate and bend/fold it out to catch air...
