View Full Version : Guess why we never had the 2004 RS6 and the plus in the USA?

Ditto for C6 RS6.

Ever wonder why we kept getting the 2003 RS6 well into 2004 and we never got the 2004 RS6 and the plus?

Hmmmm

We can only thank Al Gore and his band of raving idiots at the EPA.

Returnless fuel systems were mandated in 2004. The same stupid system that the Mercedes E55 owners are having a hell of a time with and gas leaks are pouring out of every seal in the gas tank. Including my E55.

Read up on it.

Audi said no way to the redesign on the RS6 and sold as many 03s as they could then stopped USA sales of the RS6.

Same reason we didnt get the C6 RS6.

Made my day. Some government green suit at the EPA decided to mandate a stupid fuel delivery change and make all cars comply. The same guy that wants to tap CO2 sensors on our homes, cars, shops, stores, factories, pigs a$$es....you get the idea.

Your small pockets of resistance will prove insignificant against the machine. The revolution has happened and we lost. Even if I buy the new JGCSRT8 its owned by Fiat. So I get a gas guzzler (Resistance) but I'm supporting Italy's Economy. It is done. You can complain, but no one is listening.

I agree with the 59 days but is there really any choice. As Willie has noted, we are well down the road to serfdom. Fannie and Freddie own over 95% of all private mortgages. And how did Fannie and Freddie get to this ownership? Printed FIAT money. And who owns F/F? Mr Green suit.

You cant go up against printed FIAT money.

Willie-I know you know about Allen West. Is he for real? Can he make a difference?

We can be happy about one thing. At least we have the C5 RS6 so keep the shiny side up.

I am always intrigued when someone asks this question.

I have found that the folks on this forum are pretty intelligent and up to date on many issues. Also as Car Fans are somewhat like minded. So why not have a political discussion among FRIENDS???

It's the bury one's head in the sand approach that lead to Obama being elected!

"Can't we just get along and not talk politics on this site?" That's usually the montra of a leftist who strikes down alternative viewpoints simply by stopping the dialogue. "I won. No more discussion on this or that topic" Sound Familiar?

I for one think a political conversation among those who frequent this forum would be VERY INTERESTING! Especially from our colleagues who are not in the US!

How's that European Socialism working out for you?

I challenge anyone on policy debate, economics, business models, finance, cash, bonds, securities....ect. Bring it on folks. Those that want Americans to keep their heads in the sand are about to meet some resistance. Win or lose there will be an educated debate even if MSM wants to keep us all dumb. What I dont know....I know who to call.

But just as Benman has pointed out....this is a private space and we need to obey the laws in this space. So I will obey but I dont see how talking about the EPA or Fannie Mae is "politics" . Who knows. Its just funny that the green suits actually stopped the RS6 imports. Nice to know that fact.

The one thing that I have seen in 20 years of service and 6 deployments is that it does not matter who we vote for, when they get in office they either conform or they get castrated. Allen West is another guy who says all the right things then gets elected goes to Washington and is assimilated into the machine that is American Politics. Nov 2nd will come we will vote for those who we think will change things, they will go to Congress and be told how to play ball and they will conform. 1989 Under Bush 1 I was sent to Panama, Under Clinton I was sent to Haiti twice, and Iraq, Under Bush 2, I was sent to Iraq twice, and now Obama will have us in Afghanistan for God knows how long. Dems are not suppose to be War Fighters but under each Dem I was sent to Iraq. Rep are not suppose to raise taxes but Bush 1 did that and Bush 2 just sold the damn farm. So like I said it doesn't matter who is in office, they all play by the same rules. No one person can change our political climate in America.

Then watch as the money you saved your entire life goes up in smoke when inflation kicks in to pay the national debt or when fat cat suits decide to tax your dividend payments at 40% when you already paid taxes on the money that you invested so that US companies could grow the economy. You can call me up and debate the topics then. Sir.

You should educate yourself on the subject.

Audi was not exempt.

Audi would not redesign the fuel system of the RS6 to meet this stupid EPA mandate.

Mercedes did the redesign and its a massive failure. E55s are leaking fuel of the gas tank like crazy. Owners are having to replace very expensive level sensors because they keep leaking gas. The same redesigned level sensors to comply with the EPA mandate.

Do you see a trend yet?

Audi said no way to the redesign of the RS6 fuel system and stopped imports.

Audi was able to comply(A4,S4,A6,AR,A8) by coming up with a neat little fuel filter that also served as a pressure regulator that diverted the fuel back to the tank and thus made the EPA happy. But this design was no way able to provide the volume of fuel the RS6 needed and Audi would not take that chance.

Is that enough RS6 content for the uneducated.

I worked with GM in 2006-2008. I will tell you that they did not deserve your bailout check, and you're about to get screwed again on their "IPO." If you don't understand that some of us are getting bent over and f-ed by the government right now then you're just not paying attention.

I lived through Carter and 55 mph national speed limits as a kid. We'll live through this. In 1978 my Dad ordered up a W72 Pontiac Formula Firebird with a 4-speed... One of 800 in that config. Smogged, choked, and legislated into less than 200 hp... But he had his buddy the Pontiac dealer put in a holley 650, a hot cam, cat delete pipes, and do a smog pump delete in the back room... built-in fuzzbuster and CB too. 55 my ass. My dad was a neurosurgeon and an ER doc. When he did get pulled over, he just let the officer know that he was on the way to the hospital, worked every time.

Thirty years later, I vote with my right foot and escape frustrating bullshit the same way he did. At least we can still sort of do that... In Australia, you have your car impounded and crushed for speeding. In the UK, speed cameras crawl out of every crack like the taxman's cockroaches. In other parts of europe, you can be fined tens of the thousands of dollars for traffic offenses, based on your ability to pay.

Wake up, more government is not better. Read your US history. Your founding fathers were what you would call a libertarian today.

And don't forget to vote.

DHall1
September 7th, 2010, 14:40
Do ya think he would run Aces in that Pontiac today? hehe Cool story and you know I agree with your economic and other views. That was a cool car back in the day. He should have dropped in one of the Ram air IV engines. Did you see IL bonds are actually rated worse than CA right now? That is simply amazing.

We all better thank our lucky starts that Audi was able to make the batch of "03" labeled RS6s in time to beat the EPA man and his stupid mandate. Because if you think about it....all these cars should have been 04s with their build dates so late in 03. And also thank Audi for sticking to the tested and proven fuel delivery system and not some hack job design rushed to meet this stupid EPA mandate like Mercedes Benz. Trust me when I say that you will see a class action suit on E class vehicles and or E55 vehicles sometime in the near future. Gas leaks from the gas tank and more specifically the stupid sending unit assemblies that seal the crappy returnless design. Watch out as the EPA is now acting as a political arm of the green suit monster and looking to add tax structure to CO2 emissions even without Cap and Trade. Why? Because we all know that CO2 is dangerous to your health. Oh boy.

Oh yeah, I vote with my golf clubs. F'em all, I'm going golfing. Pile the clubs in the Audi, crank the tunes, enjoy the 500hp and hit some balls, let the cockroaches tax that. Oh yeah, AmuletS6 and I have at the money Puts on XOM and it gapped down and further headed down today. Go get the clubs loaded up.

Oh, I have some of those too. LVS at 9 bucks. :-)

The Calls and Puts are just play money options for short term flips.

Mercedes has a huge problem and it centers around the fuel level sensors inside the tank. Literally they back a$$ designed the fuel system completely inside the gas tank. Both fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulator, level sensors, hoses, tubes, wiring, you name it its inside the gas tank. Audi on the other hand took a different route. They kept the fuel pump in the tank only and designed a fuel filter/pressure regulator unit as one just outside the tank then added a third nipple for a short return line to the tank. That way the EPA was happy and Audi's dont have the hodge podge of parts pumping up a storm inside the gas tank.

Max leave the 3 nipple jokes at the door please.

Hey Hey Hey

THREADJACK!!!!!!

What have you guys done to my perfectly good off topic personal rant about the EPA and stupid a$$es that took our RS6s away from us?

I gotta go pee I'm laughing so hard

69 my a$$. Where is the sign off on that card. On second look those greens are pancake flat. Where is the beef and the difficult shots?

Clearly we add no RS6 content and detailed information for others to make educated decisions on RS6 care. Clearly.

KEEP ON RANTING SO WE CAN CONTINUE IGNORING...LOL- Yep 69 it was for Ozzy- short 9 hole course, easy greens, not many sand traps. Still requires golf shots to keep it in play and accuracy to hit the greens. It is located at Fort Roots in North Little Rock. It is an old fort that was used to defend the central Arkansas area as it is located on one of the higher areas. Fort Roots now operates as a VA hospital and the golf course is used by some of the patients for rehab. I've heard quite a few good stories out there when I somtimes have the opportunity to join up with some of them. I thank all the vets (my dad included) for all they do and have done to protect our family. It is a fun little course to work on the game. Ozzy finised 18 holes in about 2 hours flat yesterday as he had the course practically to himself.

A picture of the view (not from the course but another part of the Fort) looking down on the Arkansas river. I did not take the pic and snagged it off a local site..;0

The RS6 routinely traverses me up the hills to my little peace on earth where noone rants about OT topics!

[QUOTE=MaxRS6;196227]Overlooking the next par 3. Does anyone want to guess what function those two contraptions on top of the pipe perform??

Second, WTF is this pipe doing on a golf course??

http://i827.photobucket.com/albums/zz195/MaxRS6/Ozzy%20at%20Emerald/DSC03932.jpg?t=1283908293

Pat- ya were right on target. It is an old sewer pipe that runs through the course. The pump house is just out of the picture. When they built the course, they just went around it. The old folks tee box and ladies tee box requires the golfer to duck under the pipe as you can see in the pic. How many courses requires that maneuver?

The grates on top of the pipe (I wondered for a couple of years before finally just asking)- are there to keep idjuits from "Walking the Pipe". Apparently, some thought it was fun to walk on top of the pipe. After a few had fallen (broken bones and other injuries), they welded the grates on top to try to prevent idjuits from themselves. Maybe the EPA was involved and insisted on some sort of new fuel system that I heard the E55's copied....;0

Ozzy makes it home with a legit 1 under scorecard on this 9 hole short course (play the white tees first nine, then switch to blue tees for the second trip around on the same nine). Ozzy had a good day!

I knew Ozzy, in the right hands, would be put/putt to good use!
I eagerly await the video(s) of Ozzy donuts in the Walmart parking lot on PS2's on Ice (entertainment weekly rated last years performance "...4 stars!!" )

On Topic - damn E55! maybe some "international trade" might help the situation - example - you trade your highly rare and super potentially hot E55 in Mexico for a boring ol' Audi station wagon only available IN Mexico... presto, E55 problem solved, station wagon problem solved, early Xmas problem solved!

I hear ya Ben. The E55 is fine for now because everything was replaced in the tank. So we have about 1 1/2 yrs before we need to start worring again. The E is such a blast to drive when its right that I hate to sell it. Keep an eye out for a low mileage AR or S6 avant.

OK, it's time for a moderator to interrupt this thread and remind you of a few important things:

* If you want to discuss politics, religion (other than Audi) etc. there are better forums than RS6.com. This is not the place.

* It's not cool to post and make public other people's PMs. They are called Private Messages because they are PRIVATE.

(However, if you get a PM with threats or other inappropriate content just let me or another moderator know.)

The same guy that wants to tap CO2 sensors on our homes, cars, shops, stores, factories, pigs a$$es....you get the idea.Audi did the redesign and updates - just sold the cars to Canada at the inflated rates. Again, the reasons you cite along with the additional modifications to meet stricter standards for crash test efforts saw the 2004 model in Canada top 140K for base sell price. Would have liked to been able to get into a +, regardless of whether I needed to import from the US or not.

Funny. My car is also a very late build.

Non-car people ask me all the time what year it is, (the s5 wheels and cosmetic mods throw them off) and they always seem disappointed when I say '03.

Maybe I can tell the idjuts it's an '04 and they'll feel one year less bad for me that I drive such an "old" car.:lovl:

Tim,

When looking into this EPA returnless system. I looked at the parts files for the 2004 RS6. The fuel system is the same as the 2003. Canada may not have mandated the returnless for 04 or maybe there was a work around and ETKA does not show the Canada fuel system.

On a side note. You have 10secS4's old RS6 right? Pat and I have been working on some log ideas that may solve some members issues. Would you be willing to data log a 3rd gear pull with the Vag Com? If so you could log. 3,31,115 logs

I will see if I can dig up anything at the local dealers to confirm otherwise.

I do have Marc's custom tune yes. For the third gear pull, I'd be more than happy to get the data you desire with a Vag Com. Are you looking at specific speeds/RPM to pull from/to? Just set the criteria and I will log it.

It's pretty easy to tell if you have the returnless fuel system. Is your fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail? Then no. On the logs, just a WOT pull in either 2nd or 3rd gear. Probably just all of 2nd would do, as all of 3rd brings you up to about 110mph.

Very good,

Set the log blocks to 3,31 and 115. As Pat noted above a 2nd gear pull from 2500 to redline is just fine. Send me the data and I will give you a report on what we are working on. Currently waiting on a couple of other members to report logs and then I will open up the results for debate. Oh yeah, if your willing to also run the Vag on your stock RS6 that data is also needed.

Thanks, it may give you a snapshot of the current state of tune for both cars.

Dave

Or you could go off the deep end like me and start ranting about the EPA? I wont own a newer performance vehicle unless 100% sure the fuel system design is stable for the long term. Enjoy your bailout GM plastic rattle can. I will keep my Audi.

As for the folks that snub the "old" 2003.....How many new cars have hand made all aluminum twin turbo engines putting out over 500hp yet get over 20mpg that you can drive every day without any problems? Have brakes big enough to stop a school bus, suspension designed to take hwy on ramps at 3 times the legal speed limit and finally leather so rich as soft that Ricardo Montalban could only dream of owning. Then I say..."lets go for a ride, eh?"

Randy... 69? 74? come on, I know you're a CPA and have LOTS of free time, but that's a bit hard to swallow. Perhaps that's your beer consumption? You still going to Heartland Park for the PCA driving event? It seems like your car spends more time at the dealer than your home.

Dave's treating us to AZ golf. Let's pick a weekend and take him up on it. Is the San Diego-rs6 coming over also? (How about that Chiefs victory over the chargers last night!!!)
I'm playing Southern Hills (Tulsa) and Prairie Dunes (Hutchinson, KS) back to back at the end of the month Hope my rs6 is out of the shop by then. Can't fit my clubs in the trunk of my wife's Ultimate Tanning Machine (325cic) What an uncomfortable ride.

I told ya Jim wanted some of this action. Heading down to Dove Mtn this morning. Geez its early....gotta run.

I say no to the upgraded wastegates. It opens up a huge can of worms. The turbine housings are small on our cars. Thats why we have a hard time holding boost to redline. You cant get around that fact by adding stronger springs to the trap door. It will screw up other areas and run the risk of overheating your turbine housings and cracking them. I say no to WG upgrades.

But what the hell do I know.

Look out idjuits.

Nice way to welcome yourself into the group. If one can't play, just diss the sport and players to rationalize one's lack of talent. I certainly enjoy chasing the white ball around, meeting a lot of great fellow golfers, and enjoying the beauty of the game. While the forum is certainly devoted to the RS6, we do like to throw in other subjects from time to time in order to keep things interesting.
