View Full Version : Any RS6 owners with a 6sp Allroad? Question on 6sp Allroad

As title states

I noticed some of you have Allroads. What can you tell me about the performance and driving characteristics of the 6sp AR. I have never seen or driven a 6sp model but my search for a avant keeps me going back to the C5 chassis for the size in the rear compartment. Plus, I can modify the 2.7 as needed to get the performance from the engine.

Mine's an Auto, but I did drive the 6-speed. I personally didn't like it at all. I thought that the gears were way too short. I was always shifting into a higher gear. That's just my opinion. I did have an 01.5 S4 Avant that was a 6 speed and loved it. Couldn't tell you why I liked that car in a manual and didn't with the Allroad. Maybe it's just that the Allroad is so much bigger it just didn't feel natural.

What have you done to yours? How long owned? does it perform to your needs?

I would consider the auto...they just eat TCs like our cars.

Bought it new Jan. of 05. It meets my needs, because it sits in Dallas and only gets driven when I'm down there. Currently has 21,000 miles on it. If you can deal with the, "normal" problems of the RS6 then you won't have any issues with the Allroad, other than I've replaced the air struts both front and rear already. Pretty crappy design. I love how much stuff I can throw into it. It is by far my wife's favorite car that we own. Oh yeah, the only mod on that car is 710N diverter valves. Otherwise, perfectly stock.

Oh yeah, window tint and clear bra too on that long mod list. :-)

Wink.

Hmmm,

That is interesting and good to know that your wife likes the car. I know your other vehicles so that is good. My wife drives the E55 so I think she would enjoy the AR size and drive. The dog would like the room in the back and we would be set.

Honk hell. Just tell me ahead of time to get the Vaseline out before. 50,000 tax free dollars my a$$. Enough with this $hit.

Steve,

I know but you are too far away. I need to see the job to verify its something I want and my wife can drive. A bone stock low mileage AR may fit the bill better for us.

Your signature was what provoked me to change/add mine. I love that bumper sticker, so I thought I'd share.

Yes, my wife is an interesting one. She said she feels guilty about how little she misses her Audi's over the her 335Xi, yet she still loves the Allroad more than any car made. I think it's because the damn thing can go through anything, and yet it still drives just like a car. It really is an amazing machine. Like I said though, she is interesting when it comes to cars. She liked my 04 S4 more than any of the RS4's I owned. Who'd a thunk?!?!?!?

We had two Allroads 2003, 2005, and now have a 2008 Q7 but they are all auto, much to my wifes displeasure. We wanted the manual but they were hard to find and we heard about the short gears as well. We loved our Allroad and my wife, even though she likes the Q, missed the Allroad and if we see one always laments that we let it go. It is a great car the only issue is the way it eats through tires. We have the cool looking double front wheels but the stock tires were crap and were eaten up fast (10k). Eventually I put Yoko Advans on there and they were great.

Yea Dave I had one for the last 4 Years now ( 02 Model). And absolutely love it. Its basically my Wife's car. We use it for traveling, Groceries, and its also our Home Depot car. It has a 5speed auto Gearbox which I also think is a little short on the gearing. My ECU and TCU has been flashed, and believe you me it responds when called upon. It has a Milltek Catback Exhaust and Hotchkis Anti roll bars. Its not to great on gas millage though. About 17mpg City. One of the biggest complaints with these cars are the Airbag suspension system, even though I haven't has any issues with mine. They tend to leak after a while. If I ever have any issues with mine I will replace them with Coilovers which you can get from some vendors. Similar to what many of us did with the DRC on our Beasts. Overall though a very nice Family hauler.

Man, it just dawned on me after reading Elevens post. I only have 2 Audis left, and both of them have SHIT suspensions. Wow, that's a hell of a way to end my week.

Short gears would make for a monster conversion donor for the Beast!;) It'll be crazy quick!
A friend of mine has the 6spd AR but I never got around to riding/driving it. Never got any complaints from him though.

I had an '00 6-speed S6 Avant before I bought the RS6. It was a great car and the manual gearbox was fun to drive, but in my opinion it just didn't really fit the character of the car. I really like stick, but in this size the auto just feels better and it's easier to live with day-to-day. The clutch was not too hard, but it got really annoying in traffic jams or in the city.
For an everday car I prefer an automatic transmission and for a weekend-car it's absolutely a good old manual gearbox.

Maybe it's better in the AR with a smaller engine like the 2.7T, I absolutely love to drive the RS4 B5 which has more or less the same engine with a bit of extra juice.

Not a 6 speed, but an 05' just went through the auction cheap. A good time to buy Dave :)

I still love our 2001 6speed with chip (320hp) and suspension (lowering)mods. We've had it since 2004 at 60K, now it has 162K...orginal clutch and turbos after 2 T-belt changes. Went thru a few failed front air bags and air compressors after 135K but they are easy enough and warrantied for life thru Arnott (aftermarket). I just changed the front shocks at 155K...the rear bags and shocks are fine....un-believeable really...we drive the snot out of this car. Its been a solid, reliable driver.

Its handy for us with 2 young kids. And the oil changes are so much easier than the RS6's too, but its not as easy as an E55's . I'd like to maybe replace the allroad with an 05-06' E55 wagon...but we couldn't use it in the winter up here....well, we could but it would ruin it prolly.

You can find a cherry late model car for around 10 grand. Seems like most people ditch them before they need to do the T-belt (70-80K)

We had our allroad for 4 years & 2 months . At about 135K miles, my wife got worried that it would break while out of town. All of the suspension problems, TC problems finally sorted out, we traded for an A3 tdi. I have no regrets since the wife is happy. Also, saved $301/month in fuel costs in the first 4 1/2 months.

Good lord! How far is her commute? That's a substantial reduction in fuel costs.

First Grandkid in North Carolina. 3 trips. Daughter in Florida. 1 trip. Motherinlaw in Omaha & other Daughter living in our other home in Lincoln Nebraska. Several trips. etc. etc. 19,200 miles in 4.5 months. Diesel & Preimium gas about $3/gal. The A3 gets 43 mpg at 77 to 80 mph, and the allroad gets less than half that mileage. The math tells "the rest of the story"

Price and color showing for Riverside is not correct. That or those two went down the chump lanes. This one was a silver. ;)

Benman, what is the name of the auction company you are referring to?

You have the correct name, Manheim. :)

I believe the info you posted is correct, but for some reason it is NOT showing the silver one that went through... was very nice and cheaper.

JUST like they had a beautifull SLine TDI Q7 that went through... but for $60K!!! Then, 30 minutes later they had a beautifull Premium Q7 TDI that went for sub $45K! Same miles!

A seller can rescind an auction if they don't like the price. The hammer can drop and sold yelled, but if they aren't happy about it they will figure a way to get out. Could have been what happened to the silver one you speak of. Unless you know for a fact the car traded hands.

As far as the Q7's, the sline is a 4.2 while the premium is a 3.0 diesel. In America, the majority still like the gas engine. The sline should go low to mid 50's, so 60k is high.

Good point on the Silver Allroad, that I don't know for sure.

As for the Q7, no, the Sline was absolutely for sure TDI. ;)
