Hello everyone,

Here is another DIY for front pads replacement.

Start from basic stuff, lifting, wheel removal and here are 2 pins on the caliper. Use smth to hammer them out...

If your pads are stuck there are areas in caliper where you can insert flat-head screw driver and kinda release pads.

Since I'm keeping old pads, I inserted thin and flat scraper not to damage pad surface and moved caliper piston with screwdriver.

Dont forget to place metal shields back on the new pads...

Sam one the other side. Try to replace one pad at a time. Its easier that way...

When all done, hummer down pins. Make sure they are sitting properly and all the way...

Job is done

20 min per side.

Thank you all.

Thats great, Thanks. This looks very similar to the brakes on my SRT8. I guess its a common Brembo design.

So all that is holding that pin in is a smack or two with a hammer????

Yes sir, if you can make toast, you can change pads on this car...

I make Spicy Thai Noodles with Thai chilis.... with just enough kick to let you know that you CAN sweat under your eyes or the sides of your temples.

Toast? I might have to check my notes...

Step 9: take a toothbrush to them Brembos and clean 'em up! :hihi:

Thanks for taking the time to write it up and show just how easy it is for those of us who are in imminent danger of scoring their discs... not naming any names, Ben.

My pins were rusted/corroded in place. I drilled out one side with hand held drill.
Then I got smart and simply removed the caliper on the other side and popped the pads in from the "inside". Much easier than dealing with the pins.

Quick question, how does the brake warning light in car reset?

Installing new pads and connecting the sensor pigtails (or bypass) should clear it. If not maybe it is something else...... fluid level? Brake switch?

Ok, thanks. I haven't changed them yet, I was just wondering if there was something special required to reset the sensor. I know where to come if I have probs though.

Yeah and make sure that your indy tech doesn't cut the sensor wire during your 55k service and not tell you
or
let you know that your left side rubber brake line is nearly worn thru during your 55k service (brake inspection - chmissed)
or
hey, your right side i/c hose is leaking oil and when taken off, opps - spilled 1/2 cup of blow by oil - that area was of course inspected during 55k service.

Can't recommend ALL GERMAN AUTO to anyone...

Don't mess with the pins unless they come out easily.

Remove the caliper and replace the pads the easy way. Two bolts (allen wrech).

Yes, it's very difficult to get the little metal backer plates in from this direction but after about 37,000 miles without those backer plates I have noticed nothing!. When I did the struts I looked at that passenger side caliper and the pads and they were not FUSED to the caliper.

The drivers side I did the 'drill out the pins thing' what a PITA.

Question - when preparing the EBC Red pads for installation, do I only need to grind away the paint in the "u" portion, or does that area require more grinding in order to sit properly?
TIA

Mine required no mod.

I think there was a design issue early on and paint grinding was in order. Now it seems ebc has resolved it.

When Pat helped me put my car in proper working order last year, we found out that a lot of break dust gathered at the bottom cover plate of the caliper. New pads would not sit properly nor float freely until that area was thoroughly cleaned. Pat was able to take off one plate, but not the other. It was a real pain. Same sadisitic Audi engineer who designed air filter box must have added this design feature to front calipers.

Ok, I am testimony to the fact that changing the pads is not difficult .. 1 hour on the left side as I familiarized myself with the job... then 20 mins on the right. I did have some difficulty getting the lower pads fitted on both sides..very tight on the ends. That's consistent with the comment above from vr430. Next time I'll scrub the area completely.

yes, brake dust settles under the spring clip!

I did mine two weeks ago, while barbequing dinner! LOL, 20 minutes max each side, takes longer to jack the car and remove the wheel than to remove the caliper and pull the pads.

Pulling the pins is a fools errund. Just pull the caliper off, much easier.
